As it so happens, Bungie's science fiction shooter wound up leading the pack somewhat, as the game's Forsaken expansion helped the action-RPG top digital console sales for the month.

According to SuperData's figures, Destiny 2 was able to take the top spot in digital console sales due to 60 percent of the science fiction shooter sequel's monthly active users purchasing its Forsaken expansion. Insomniac Games' Spider-Man came in second place for the month, EA Sports' FIFA 19 took the third spot, and Epic Games' wildly successful Fortnite: Battle Royale was pushed from its long-running placement at the top of the list down to fourth.

While Destiny 2 reigned supreme in this department for the month, NBA 2K19 rounded out the top five for September 2018's digital console game sales, with digital console unit sales for Visual Concepts' latest entry in 2K Sports' pro basketball franchise being up year-over-year from NBA 2K18.
