Once players have their ideal rolls, it’s important to chase down the Dead Man’s Tale Catalyst. For many players, it becomes a powerful weapon in Crucible and well worth the effort of obtaining. For those wanting the Catalyst, here’s what it does and how to get it.

What It Does

Destiny 2 Dead Man's Tale Weapon

Dead Man’s Tale Catalyst introduces a useful perk called Dark-Forged Trigger. Dark-Forged Trigger has two effects when applied to the weapon:

  • Increased rate of fire for hipfiring.
  • Removes hipfire penalties for accuracy.

This gives players a fast weapon that works well in fast paced combat scenarios. Its still early to see how it shakes up the meta in Crucible, but it’s bound to have an impact of some kind.

How To Get It

Destiny 2 At Your Fingertips

After getting the weapon players will need to complete the questline At Your Fingertips. Basically, players will need to recomplete the Presage quest again on Master difficulty to get the Catalyst. Then they’ll need to upgrade it using two methods; racking up kills and finding hidden caches.

Presage

Destiny 2 Presage Arena

It’s the same mission as it was to get the weapon only harder and with a 25-minute timer. If it’s been a while, players should strongly consider running the mission again to become familiar with the jumps and puzzles to save time.

It’s also helpful to remember there’s no power cap on the Master difficulty. Players can be as over-leveled as they want to make it easier.

Upgrade With Kills

Destiny 2 Presage

The Dead Man’s Tale Catalyst can be upgraded by simply killing enemies with the Dead Man’s Tale weapon. It will take a total of 800 kills to fully upgrade the weapon. Fortunately, any retroactive kills done with the Dead Man’s Tale will count.

The bottom line is players should equip this weapon and use it almost exclusively to obtain those 800 kills. Ideally though, players should also use the second method to upgrade their Catalyst to cut down on that time.

Find Hidden Caches

Destiny 2 Hidden Cache

Hidden Caches are available on a second run of Presage and only one is available each week. Each Hidden Cache will count as 12% of the upgrade. There are at least a dozen Hidden Caches the player can encounter. It’s strongly recommended the player use a video guide as some of the Caches can be hard to spot.

Tips

Destiny 2 Dead Man's Tale Rifle Guardian

Players need to complete Presage to get the weapon, complete it again on Master to get the Catalyst, and a number of times to locate Hidden caches. For obvious reasons, players should become extremely familiar with Presage and how to complete it within 25 minutes.

It’s strongly recommended to go after Hidden Caches in tandem with getting kills via the Dead Man’s Tale. Each Hidden Cache counts as 96 kills, that’s 96 fewer enemies the player has to kill with the Dead Man’s Tale and cuts down significantly on grind time.

Doing only Caches isn’t ideal either as it would take over 8 weeks to finish. Because of this, players should become comfortable using Dead Man’s Tale and use it as their primary weapon moving forward. Remember, any kill with Dead Man’s Tale counts towards the 800 even before getting the Catalyst.
