Destiny 2’s annual Dawning holiday event is in full swing and this year things are a little different. While past Dawning events have been heavily microtransaction-influenced – built around Eververse – this year players have a few extra tasks to complete.

Former Eververse vendor Eva Levante will ask players to “bake” some holiday treats for members of the Tower, but first players must find the ingredients for each recipe. Some are a little obvious based on their name, while others are not.

In most of the bounties, there are three ingredients necessary for completing a Dawning recipe. The first ingredient is tied to kills of a specific enemy race in Destiny 2.

  • Cabal Oil – Cabal Kills
  • Chitin Powder – Hive Kills
  • Dark Ether Cane – Scorn Kills
  • Ether Cane – Fallen Kills
  • Taken Butter – Taken Kills
  • Vex Milk – Vex Kills

The second Dawning recipe ingredient is a little more obtuse, as these ingredients require specific types of kills to acquire.

  • Bullet Spray – Kills using fast-firing weapons
  • Delicious Explosion – Kills using grenades
  • Electric Flavor - Arc Kills
  • Flash of Inspiration – Generate an orb of light
  • Impossible Heat – Solar Kills
  • Null Taste – Void Kills
  • Perfect Taste – Precision Kills
  • Personal Touch – Melee Kills
  • Sharp Flavor – Sword kills

And the final piece of the puzzle is Essence of Dawning, which can drop from almost any activity in Destiny 2. The harder or more involved the activity, the more Essence of Dawning drops.

  • Patrols = 1-3 Essence
  • Public Events = 5 Essence
  • Heroic Adventure = 6 Essence
  • Strikes = 15-17 Essence
  • Gambit = 22 Essence
  • Nightfall = 23 Essence

Once players have completed a Dawning bounty they can turn it in to earn progress towards the unique exotic sparrow that is tied to the event.

Thus far the Dawning seems to be a vast improvement over what was offered in Year 1 of Destiny 2. Bungie was hit with tons of complaints that the Dawning was fueled by cosmetics and Eververse purchases and players were limited to two free engrams before character. Without any other way to acquire the Dawning engrams, players either spent money to get everything they wanted, or they gave up on the event.

Thankfully, Bungie has refined its approach to events since then and now players can earn event engrams, as well as bright engrams, simply by playing Destiny 2. On top of that, the developer has added more for players to do and earn during the event, like these recipes.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
