Destiny 2 is getting its fans amped up for the holiday season through the franchise's version on winter festivities, the annual Dawning event that takes place in December and runs into January of the new year. Bungie's latest post (and Destiny 2 trailer) is all about the new reward and cosmetics that will arrive when the Dawning does.

This year, the Dawning is coming right on the heels of Destiny 2's Season of Dawn, and the event combines the new and the old with some activities and rewards returning from last year--although most of the earnable rewards are actually new for 2019. In its post, Bungie not only named a few event highlights but also explained how the Dawning will work for those ready to score some rewards.

The matronly Eva Levante is returning to the Tower and bringing her recipes with her, so that's where players can expect to kick off their holiday activities; with a batch (or five) of cookies under their belts players can go forth and exchange them for the real treat, in-game rewards. This year, the rewards include a winter-themed ship and Sparrow, plus the chance to win some of the fan-favorite items from last year's holiday haul. There's also a brand new Cold Front submachine gun, which looks like it'll also cost a fair number of cookies for players to earn. And of course, Tess's Eververse store will be stocked with holiday decorations--with silver and bright dust, players can pick up new emotes, ghost shells, and armor ornaments to fit the festive atmosphere.

According to Bungie, Eva's upgraded Holiday Oven will be up and running for players; last year she gave players an oven that they could improve on over time, though it's not clear if players will be able to add any more upgrades for this Dawning. Last year players could also mix different ingredients to make cookies that fit their favorite characters' preferences. This year, there's no mention from Bungie yet of a unique activity for the event, but that could be due to Season of Dawn's recent arrival.

Regardless, the Dawning holiday event runs from December 17 to January 14, and it's open to all players whether or not they purchased the latest season or Shadowkeep. It's nice to know that even in virtual worlds, the holiday spirit is free for all.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
