With the release of Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion has come a lot of new currencies, collectibles, and quests for players to keep track of. One that is crucial for the endgame and leveling is the Dark Fragment.

For those that have yet to get to the Dreaming City in Destiny 2, this won’t make a lot of sense, but know that Dark Fragments are important. This currency is used to purchase items and bounties from Petra Venj, some of which will offer powerful gear on a weekly rotation.

Obtaining Dark Fragments in the Dreaming City is a slow process but there are several sources for them. Any activity that involves a chest or an end reward will give out at least one Dark Fragment, while some will give out two. That includes:

  • Patrol Completion
  • Lost Sector Chests
  • High Value Target Chests
  • Public Event Completion
  • Blind Well Completion

Since Destiny 2: Forsaken is new, the Dark Fragment grind is going to be slow but players will want to get at least 40 to purchase Petra’s bounty that rewards powerful gear. There are a lot more ways to increase one’s power level past 500 in Destiny 2 thanks to the Challenge and bounty systems, but it is also a slow process. Any opportunity is going to be welcome.

It’s also worth mentioning that the Last Wish raid for Destiny 2 has yet to go live – it will open its doors on Friday, September 14th – so there may be even more ways to earn Dark Fragments. It’s possible that each encounter completion will unlock the currency, similar to how any other chest offers Dark Fragments.

That being said, we don’t know how the Last Wish raid will work or if it will carry its own currency. It may even feature a unique vendor like Benedict was for the Leviathan raid and raid lairs. For now, the above listed activities are the best for acquiring Dark Fragments.

Destiny 2: Forsaken is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
