After about 4 hours of attempts, the new Crown of Sorrow raid in Destiny 2 has been beaten and a new clan has claimed the title of World’s First and a championship belt. Be Bold, a relatively new clan for the Destiny 2 community, was able to complete Crown of Sorrow, arguably the most fair raid race that the game has ever seen.

While plenty of Destiny 2 fans expected the usual clans like Redeem, Tier 1, and Math Class/The Legend Himself to make a run at the World’s First title, Be Bold was also in the mix with a strong lineup of Destiny vets. The fireteam that beat the Crown of Sorrow raid first was comprised of Akada, BigBadDave7, Carolina, Esoterickk, Punz, and WNxDelirium.

Crown of Sorrow may not be the hardest raid that Destiny players have ever seen, but as we mentioned, it was arguably the fairest. With the addition of the Contest modifier, Bungie ensured that no player could overlevel any encounter, and that every fireteam was facing the same problems. Since most players were able to reach power level 716+ in between the launch of Season of Opulence and the raid, everyone was doing and taking the same amount of damage from enemies, give or take.

Presumably, Bungie will continue to use the Contest modifier moving forward, but hopefully, the 6-hour rush to power level will be lengthened. The modifier creates an even playing field and forces a challenge on every player regardless of their RNG or efforts. More importantly, Contest makes it so players can do any manner of tricks or glitches to level up fast, and they still won’t have an advantage over anyone else.

As part of their World’s First completion, Be Bold will receive a Crown of Sorrow themed championship belt and they all unlocked the new Tarrabah exotic submachine gun upon defeating the final boss. This new weapon carries a unique perk that lets it transfer outgoing and incoming damage into a high damage mode that shreds through enemies.

It wouldn’t be a World’s First raid race if there wasn’t at least one team with an unfortunate story. In this case, the Math Legends (made up of members of Math Class and The Legend Himself) "clan" missed out on World’s First by just 6 minutes and was actually awarded Tarrabah, which made the team think they got World’s First. It was an unfortunate situation for those 6 players who were excited and then deflated in a short period of time, but Bungie seemingly couldn't account for situations where a team beat their run right after another.

Regardless, congratulations to all Destiny 2 players that have completed the Crown of Sorrow raid.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
