Destiny 2 has established some great characters for players to interact with throughout the game’s long-running story. One of the more tragic ones is the young Guardian Crow. While some fans see the Awoken Guardian as a clear successor to Cayde-6 for the Hunter Vanguard position, he still feels a need to prove himself. This seems to stem from the remnants of his previous incarnation, Uldren Sov, the Awoken Prince and villain in the Forsaken expansion of Destiny 2.

While Uldren Sov has already paid the ultimate price for his crimes, Crow runs the risk of becoming too much like the late Awoken Prince. Based on his current temperament in Season of the Lost, it’s clear that Crow struggles with the same self-assurance and rash nature that Uldren Sov had. Even as Mara Sov and Petra Venj try to protect Crow from Savathun, he views it as necessary to have a private audience with the Witch Queen. After Uldren Sov was already led astray by Riven, it’s hard to see Crow succumb to the same temptations.

Crow and Savathun

It is especially concerning that Crow is so keen on continuing to be in proximity of the Witch Queen after the reveal that the Warlook Osiris was Savathun in disguise at the conclusion of Season of the Splicer. While Crow has a point that this means Savathun was able to mislead everyone, including the player’s Guardian, it doesn’t mean he should continue to be in contact with her after she posed as his mentor. As The Witch Queen expansion gets closer, Savathun only becomes a greater threat.

There's also the concern that Savathun might have already taken other Guardians besides Osiris, and if Crow continues to pursue an audience with her despite recent events he could be next. A situation where Crow continues to obsess over the Witch Queen could result in him becoming a corrupted member of the Vanguard’s most prominent Guardians. As time passes, he will hopefully be able to see how and why others worry for him, while accepting that minimal contact with Savathun is the best case scenario.

Especially considering Savathun already has her Hive Guardians, the possibility of them continuing to be face-to-face could make Crow a significant problem in The Witch Queen expansion itself. Savathun is likely to want control over classic Guardians if only as means to tighten her grasp around humanity, but she still has more she wants to learn about the nature of the Light as well. This could make Crow a valuable asset if their stories continue to intertwine in the future.

Seeing whether or not Crow will spiral down a dark path that mirrors Uldren Sov’s is something fans will likely see play out as Season of the Lost continues. With Ager’s Scepter and the lore that has been presented around it, Mara Sov still loves her brother and accepts Crow is not a true reincarnation of Uldren. This could help ease some of the tension that has built up among the most powerful Awoken, but it could also have the opposite effect.

If Crow continues to follow in Uldren Sov’s footsteps, the shadow cast on him could become the straw that breaks the camel's back. If he pursues Ager’s Scepter and continues to yearn to be in the presence of Savathun, he could become a lethal enemy. Crow has shown himself to be skilled enough to tail Commander Zavala unnoticed. A Guardian in service to Savathun that can do what Crow does may become a threat the Vanguard is not ready for. The Witch Queen campaign already sounds like it will be full of problems, so hopefully none will wear the faces of old allies.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
