Destiny 2 is a beloved online shooter game that has captivated players worldwide and has recently made efforts to incorporate some cosmetics from other popular games through occasional events. Destiny 2's unique gameplay and its immersive world have made it a popular choice for gamers looking for a new and exciting gaming experience. However, despite its popularity, the game has faced criticism from players regarding its recent crossover events.

The first crossover event with Fortnite was met with mixed reactions. Some players were thrilled with the new armor sets that were introduced, while others felt that they were underwhelming. The armor sets, which were designed to fit the Fortnite motif to a certain degree, were more effective when used with just one or two pieces not to go overboard with outlandish looks. On the other hand, Destiny 2's crossover event with Assassin's Creed was not as well received, with some players feeling that the armor sets were not a good fit for Destiny 2 and didn't work well in the shooter's world leaning more toward sci-fi than fantasy.

Destiny 2 Needs Crossover Events With Similarly-Themed Games

A new leak showcases new Titan, Warlock, and Hunter armor in Destiny 2 as part of a Fortnite crossover.

There are a few ways to ensure future crossover events are successful. Bungie could look to partner with games that share similar themes and styles. Games like Dead Space, Doom Eternal, Fallout, or even Star Wars games. This way, Destiny 2 will be able to provide its players with armor sets, weapons, and other elements that fit the game's world and are enjoyable to play with because they will fit the general aesthetic of the game much better and blend perfectly with existing designs.

In the future, Destiny 2 could also expand on its crossover events to provide players with more ways to bring crossover content to the game. This could include new weapons based on the crossover game, providing players with a fresh way to enjoy content themes from other games. Additionally, new perks and traits in Destiny 2 could be introduced on crossover weapon drops, providing players with an unexpected and exciting way to progress late in any given Season. These new perks and traits could also be available during and even after the crossover event itself.

Destiny 2's Crossover Events Could Be More Than Just Paid Cosmetics

Ultimately, it wouldn't make sense for Bungie to rely on FOMO in Destiny 2 again and remove the extra content produced for the crossover promotion. Additionally, Ghosts, Sparrows, and even full-on missions and modes could also be a part of future crossovers. These elements could add a new level of excitement and engagement to Destiny 2 and provide players with more ways to earn interesting upgrades and progress through the game. Another thing Bungie should learn from this whole experience is how to find and maintain relationships with other game studios and publishers whose content themes would fit well within future Destiny 2 crossover events.

All in all, Destiny 2's most recent crossover events with Fortnite, Fall Guys, and Assassin's Creed haven't fully lived up to the fans' expectations of all franchises involved. Some players could argue it would have been much more interesting for the crossover event with something like Fortnite to let Guardians grind for icon Legendary and Exotic guns from the Fortnite universe. If Bungie is going to partake in these events, it could go that one further step and provide some value for players that goes beyond cosmetic items, especially when they can't even be earned for free in the game.

Destiny 2 is currently available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
