UPDATE: Bungie has confirmed that Destiny 2 will not feature cross save support for any platform. Read the latest details here.

With less than 24 hours until the Destiny 2 reveal, there were bound to be a few rumors floating around regarding Bungie’s forthcoming sequel. But things have been relatively light overall, save for some small details about how the PS4 and PC version of the game will interact with each other.

According to a tipster on NeoGAF, the PS4 and PC versions of Destiny 2 will support cross saves. That means someone could be mid-adventure on PS4, stop playing, load up their PC version of Destiny 2, and then continue right where they left off.

For those wondering about Xbox cross save, the source claims that Microsoft is holding the feature back. It might be that the company was trying to push Destiny 2 as a Play Anywhere title and that fell through, or simply that it didn’t like the current offering.

The idea of cross saves between Destiny 2 versions makes sense, since everything is saved server side already. Bungie doesn’t need to design anything extra for players to ensure their characters are exactly the same on one platform or the other. That being said, there is some PS4 exclusive content to consider, but perhaps Destiny 2 does away with exclusive weapons.

In order for players to want to switch between the two platforms, one would hope that Destiny 2 runs at 60 fps on both PC and console, and according to the rumor that is the case. In fact, the source claims that the sequel has been optimized for future consoles as well, like the Xbox Scorpio and the PS5.

Of course, even though the prospect of cross saves between PC and PS4 versions of Destiny 2 is exciting, the rumor should be treated with a fair dose of skepticism. Thus far, Bungie has been pretty good about keeping rumors off the Internet; that is, after marketing materials spoiled the initial Destiny 2 announcement.

If Bungie is going to add such a feature, then it is very likely that the studio will do so tomorrow, at the Destiny 2 gameplay reveal. For a while now there has been talk of luring the PC fan base in, and helping grow the community on PC. In our minds, there is no better way to do that, then to give console players the option to switch to PC whenever they want.

Destiny 2 releases September 8, 2017 for PS4 and Xbox One. The PC version does not have a release date.
