Guardians who want to add a new layer of complexity to their Destiny 2 games can rely on the Season of Dawn's Charged with Light mechanic. As such, thanks to this new "resource," Guardians of Bungie's hit MMO can imbue themselves with new abilities and skills they can use to dominate the battlefield. Moreover, this mechanic may very well outclass mods and Perks in terms of character customization.

Unfortunately, there's no "in-depth" guide in Destiny 2 that thoroughly explains this gameplay option. Thankfully, learning about the Charged with Light mechanic should be a breeze with the right guide. Moreover, players can take full advantage of this mechanic with the right armor pieces and build in mind. However, how would they do this?

10 Charged With Light Is A Resource

Players confused about the mechanic can remember this simply as: Charged with Light is a buff resource. Moreover, the buff itself won't do anything on its own. Rather, these "Charges" stack and players can "spend" them to gain certain benefits.

However, Charged with Light can only be earned or spent by fulfilling certain conditions. Players need to equip green icon mods to gain Charged with Light and expend them with yellow icon mods. As such, players need to pay extra attention to what mod combinations they use to maximize their Charged with Light potential.

9 Seasonal Arrivals

Certain Dawn Armor mods grant Charged with Light. However, due to their nature, they can only be placed inside Dawn Armor Slots. As such, players who want to maximize their Charged with Light potential should consider acquiring the appropriate Dawn Armor pieces or sets that fit their particular build.

Moreover, the Charged with Light buff also encourages players to pursue better Season of Dawn drops. As such, those thinking about using Charged with Light mechanics should think whether this is worth potentially scrapping their current build with a Charged with Light-focused one.

8 Take Note Of Stack Counts

While Charged with Light is a resource, there's a limit on how many stacks a Guardian can carry. In fact, most Guardians have a two-stack limit to their Charged with Light. As such, players are encouraged to find mod combinations that promote easy Charged with Light spending that gives them maximum benefits for their quest.

However, some mods actually increase this maximum number. For instance, the gray-iconed Charged Up mod increases a Guardian's total Charged with Light stack by one. Meanwhile, the Stacks on Stacks mod gives an extra Charged with Light charge for each stack they gain.

7 Choose Mods That Fit Your Playstyle

Thanks to the flexible nature of Charged with Light mods, players can find mods that earn or expend Charged with Light that fit their particular playstyles. For instance, the Taking Charge mod grants players Charged with Light whenever they pick up Orbs of Light. Meanwhile, the High-Energy Fire increases weapon damage at the cost of one stack.

Combining these two together allows Guardians to continuously use their Super abilities, as Orbs of Light fill up their Super ability meter. Moreover, Guardians can spend Charged with Light stacks to buff their attacks while they're on the offensive.

6 Sustaining Charge Can Retain Buffs

Interestingly, Charged with Light mods don't just give effects when gaining or spending stacks alone. As a matter of fact, some mods grant benefits while players are Charged with Light.

For instance, the damage boost granted by the aforementioned High-Energy Fire mod lasts until an enemy is defeated. It's only after that enemy is defeated that this mod will expend a Charged with Light stack. This factor means players can theoretically enjoy this damage boost until they kill their single target, which can be a high-HP boss.

5 Elemental Variety Still Counts

Despite the vast potential of Charged with Light mods, they still function like most mods. As such, some Charged with Light mods have particular elemental affinities, which means they need to fit in with certain armor slots. Moreover, this caveat means certain Charged with Light mods also work best with particular weapons.

For instance, the Quick Charge mod gives players Charged with Light stacks if they kill multiple enemies with Shotguns and Fusion Rifles. However, as an Arc-based mod, it can only fit Arc-based armor pieces. As a plus, since Shotgun mods are closely-tied to Arc armor pieces, Guardians who want to use the Quick Charge mod might want to focus on a Shotgun build.

4 Take Note Of Penalties

Unfortunately, power comes at a price. In the case of Charged with Light benefits, equipping some Charged with Light mods actually come with their respective penalties. For instance, while the Protective Light mod uses all Charged with Light stacks to boost damage resistance after shields are destroyed, it does come with a -10 Strength Penalty.

As such, players planning on making Charged with Light builds should also consider penalties they will accrue. Following the same example, the Protective Light mod becomes extremely useful in crucial situations. However, melee-focused builds or classes need Strength for their melee attacks. Players need to weigh whether this extra damage resistance is worth risking slowing their melee attack recharge.

3 Energy Cost Matters

Aside from elemental affinities and penalties, Charged with Light mods still come with energy cost. As such, Guardians should still do a bit of resource management to ensure their chosen Charged with Light mods still work with mods they want in that armor piece.

In most cases, this energy costing shouldn't be a problem. For instance, the Empowered Finish mod only costs one energy to fit in the armor piece. However, High-Energy Fire costs five energy to slot in. As such, making the two work together already costs five energy, which might not leave any more room for other mods.

2 Find Easy Ways Of Refilling Stacks

Guardians can only feel the advantages of Charged with Light provided they have stacks to spend. As such, the Charged with Light mods they equip should always help them find ways to earn Charged with Light stacks in the first place.

For instance, the Precisely Charged mod and Quick Charge mod fit players with a knack of switching weapons on the fly. After all, the former encourages quick precision kills with Sniper Rifles or Linear Fusion Rifles, while the latter encourages quick kills with Shotguns and Fusion Rifles.

1 Charged With Light Doesn't Come Off Easily

What a lot of Guardians don't realize about Charged with Light is that these stacks don't necessarily "expire." Unlike buffs that get automatically removed with inactivity, Charged with Light only gets removed from the player once they do certain things. In this case, these stacks only get removed once players spend them, get in orbit, or stop their particular activity (like a raid quest).

As such, players can use Charged with Light to their advantage, especially if having a stack gives a buff. For instance, in terms of High-Energy Fire, players can enjoy the increased damage for as long as they don't kill an enemy under this buff.
