Destiny 2 is undergoing a lot of significant changes today, and while most of them are linked to gameplay elements and the new Season of the Lost, there is something else worth mentioning about Bungie Names. Starting today, after the 3.3.0 update drops and Season of the Lost becomes available, Destiny 2 players will see their account name changed to their Bungie Name. Fret not, though, because it can be changed.

How to Change The Bungie Name

Because there will not be name changes available for a while after the 3.3.0 update is released, players should make sure to change their Bungie Name to something they are more comfortable with before logging into the game after 10 AM PT. Luckily, it is very easy to do, and these are the steps to follow:

  • Navigate to the official Bungie website
  • Click on "My Account" in the upper right corner, next to the "Play Destiny 2" button
  • Players can sign in by clicking on the platform they play Destiny 2 on
  • Follow the instructions to log in and confirm by clicking "Sign in" in the new pop-up window
  • Where the "My Account" button was will now be an avatar, which players should click on
  • Then, click on the "Settings" button, found at the lower end of the menu
  • That will take players to the "About Me" section, where players should click on the box under "Display Name"
  • Players can now type a new Bungie Name to use and then hit the "Save" button in the pop-up message at the bottom of the screen

This will automatically update the choice, and players logging into Destiny 2 after the new update will be able to enjoy their new Bungie Name as their in-game name (i.e., the name that's displayed to other players in social areas, PVE content, and PVP).

How to Change The Bungie Name On Mobile

Some players might prefer doing this from mobile, and here is what they should do. To do so, players will need the Destiny 2 Companion App, which is found in the Play Store for Android devices or the App Store for iOS devices. Once the app is installed, players should do as follows:

  • Tap on the Destiny 2 Companion App to start it
  • Tap on Sign in with Bungie.net
  • Select the platform gamers play Destiny 2 on
  • Follow the instructions to log in and confirm by clicking "Sign in" in the new pop-up window
  • The app will state that players are signing in as their current Bungie Name, and they should tap on the "Approve" button
  • Tap on the "More" button at the far left of the menu found at the bottom of the screen
  • Tap on "Account Settings"
  • Tap on "About Me"
  • Finally, under "Display Name" players can tap on the box where their current Bungie Name is and change it to the one they prefer, and then tap on the checkmark in the upper right corner of the screen to save the changes

Again, the process is quite simple, and yet it's very useful for those players who currently have a Bungie Name they don't like. With the maintenance going on, players might encounter issues with the website or the app being offline. However, as long as this is done before logging into Destiny 2's Season of the Lost, players should see their new Bungie Name up and ready.

Destiny 2 is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
