In the story trailer for Destiny 2: Forsaken released at E3, fans were shocked at the death of wise-cracking Hunter Vanguard Cayde-6. In the trailer, Cayde-6 is offed by Prince Uldren, who has returned to the story after an absence since the beginning of Destiny's Taken King expansion. Since then, Twitter and the Destiny subreddit have been filled with fans mourning the death of Cayde-6.

And it appears that someone at E3 wanted to memorialize the fictional character's death with a real-life memorial outside the Los Angeles Convention Center where E3 2018 is being held. At the end of the first day of E3 on Tuesday, Destiny 2 fans found it on the sidewalk.

As for the fate of Cayde-6, Bungie confirmed after the story trailer was revealed that Cayde is dead for good. His death wasn't a trick and there aren't any plans to bring him back. Bungie said the Forsaken expansion is a space western that is all about revenge and one of the best ways the developer felt to motivate players emotionally in the story, and to give the narrative a darker tone, was to kill off the biggest comic relief.

Game Rant played Forsaken's first story mission, and (SPOILERS!) when players get to the end of that first campaign mission they will witness the in-game death of Cayde-6, which happens to play out differently than the scene that is shown in the short story trailer at E3. (SPOILERS END)

There's a lot more news that came out today about Destiny 2: Forsaken straight from E3, including a new trailer for the PvE/PvP hybrid mode Gambit, more details about how the new weapon slots will work, Forsaken's level cap, and confirmation that Year 1 gear will carry forward into Year 2.
