The big narrative talking point from the Destiny 2 Forsaken expansion DLC is that it kills off Cayde-6. The NPC, who is voiced by Nathan Fillion, gave the game a comedic edge with his wisecracks, quips, and the love for his pet chicken. As such, fans were understandably upset to know that the character would become a goner.

Destiny 2 developer Bungie knows this too, which is why it has made efforts to send Cayde-6 off the right way. In addition to the content in Destiny 2 Forsaken, Bungie has also posted a final farewell letter from Cayde-6 on its website. The letter, which is screenshotted in full below, perfectly captures Cayde-6's jovial spirit and his happy-go-lucky attitude. Although many fans are heartbroken that the character has passed, the letter is a suitable send-off for the beloved NPC.

Destiny 2 Cayde-6 final letter

The letter isn't the only touching moment that Bungie has included in the game to commemorate Cayde-6's passing. Last month, a Destiny 2 update also introduced the Spicy Ramen quest; a reference to the lovable exo's love of the tasty noodle dish. Gifting players an expired coupon, Destiny 2 fans found themselves going on a wild goose chase trying to figure out the secrets of the quest and what the next steps of it were.

As it turned out, there were no next steps to that quest and fans' efforts had been in vain. However, the expired coupon would at least remain as a symbol for Destiny 2 players to remember Cayde-6 by.

Although most fans will be preoccupied with grieving over the NPC and wondering what it means for future Destiny 2 canon, others will only have kind words to say about Bungie's creativity. Cayde-6 is one of the most well-known characters in the Destiny franchise and there has even been Cayde-6 Destiny 2 merchandise, so Bungie made a bold decision by killing the character off.

But not only that, it also speaks to Bungie's new approach to the game's narrative. One of the most heavily criticized aspects of the original Destiny was its story and the developer made it clear that it would be improving Destiny 2's story in a big way. So, the fact that the developer has been able to make some fans cry and others form such a strong connection to the NPC speaks to those efforts. How else the studio plans to surprise fans or improve the series' lore and the narrative is yet to be seen.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
