As Bungie revealed during its Destiny 2 Showcase, season 18 adds in a pirate theme to the popular online shooter. Teaming up with the likes of Mithrax, Drifter, and Spider, players will be taking on the Eramis, who has been freed from her icy prison on Europa. Alongside sci-fi pirate themed cosmetics and weapons that resemble traditional weapons like a Blunderbuss, players will also take part in missions where they need to take down pirate lords, hunt treasure, or raid enemy ships.

Getting to this point hasn't always been a smooth ride, however. As has happened in the past, content for both Season of Plunder and the upcoming Lightfall expansion started to leak a little early. Following the launch of Season 18, the experience has also seen a few unfortunate hiccups including various bugs that have trapped players behind a closed door in the Ketchcrash activity, blocking seasonal progress after completing the Salvage and Salvation boss encounter, as well as seasonal triumphs not progressing as expected.

However, many Destiny 2 players have been running into an issue with the Captain's Atlas quest item following the seasonal introduction mission. Thankfully, a fix has been found until a more official patch can fully resolve it.

Players take to the stars and channel their inner pirate in Destiny 2's newest season, Season of Plunder.

Captain's Atlas Bug

Considering the Pirate themed season, players will be collecting an atlas and map fragments to help locate treasure and plan voyages. As players have experienced in past seasons, heading to a central location on the H.E.L.M. called the Star Chart has Season 18 rank rewards, unlock weapons and armor, bounties, and a way to upgrade the Pirate Crew following weekly story missions.

The Captain's Atlas is one of the first quest items unlocked as it is a key Season of Plunder item that uses Map Fragments from the Ketchcrash activity as well as Treasure Coordinates from various activities like Public Events, Crucible, and others.

Unfortunately, there's a bug in Destiny 2 that is currently preventing players from picking up the Captain's Atlas, which effectively halts any further seasonal progress considering how important the item is. What many have been seeing is a situation where they go to pick it up at the Star Chart and the item pops like it has been acquired. Upon looking at the Quests tab, the Atlas may not appear as expected.

Captain's Atlas Fix

As frustrating as that is, there are a few solutions floating around currently to resolve this Season of Plunder related bug. While Bungie has identified the issue on its Known Issues board, the company mentions that this bug can happen if the player's quest menu is full. In this case, players are advised to clear quest inventory and then picking up the Captain's Atlas from the Postmaster.

However, there are also instances where the player may have open inventory space and the item still bugs out. At this point, it's also recommended to leave the menu and go directly to the postmaster area in the H.E.L.M. as players have found the item listed as a "Lost Item." By picking it up from here, the Captain's Atlas activates and gets placed in the Quest Inventory screen as expected.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Stadia.
