Bungie's loot shooter/RPG Destiny 2 made the jump to a free-to-play model with the start of the game's eighth season, and players have spent the last few months adjusting to the changes made to the popular FPS's Eververse store. With the Season of Dawn scheduled to start next week and further refinements to Destiny 2's economy coming with it, Redditor anonymoususer1910 calculated how much of the game's Bright Dust currency fans would need to buy every item offered in Eververse since Season 8 started in October.

New and old players of Destiny 2 alike will no doubt be familiar with the game's Eververse store, where Bungie offers a rotating selection of cosmetic items like shaders, ornaments for armor and weapons, and finishing moves for Guardians. Most items in the store are limited to purchase with the premium Silver currency, but one section of Eververse sells a weekly rotation of items that can be bought with Bright Dust, a currency that players can earn by completing bounties.

Destiny 2 fans hoping to be able to collect all of the cosmetic items in the Bright Dust store could be out of luck, however. According to the poster, purchasing all of the items offered for Bright Dust in the Eververse store would cost 185,300 Bright Dust, a number that would require players to complete all of the weekly bounties available on an account's three character slots for 9 weeks and then finish 15,290 of the game's repeatable bounties. Even for a game where fans look forward to grinding their way to max Power in the endgame, it's possible to have too much of a good thing.

While only a small amount of the playerbase for Destiny 2 would be interested in earning all of the cosmetic items the game has to offer, the exercise illustrates the growing pains that Bungie has had with balancing microtransactions and the player experience of its MMO since its separation from publisher Activision earlier this year. The studio is hoping to be more transparent with fans on what to expect from Eververse in the future, and plans to make Bright Dust more readily available with additional bounties and sources in Season 9.

Destiny 2's ninth season starts on Tuesday, December 10. The update is set to introduce a new activity called the Sundial to the game, as well as a returning Crucible map from the original Destiny and a new set of seasonal rewards for Guardians to earn. Some Season 8 content, including the Eriana's Vow hand cannon and the quest for the Leviathan's Breath exotic heavy bow may be removed with the update, so players will want to get what they can from the Season Pass over the weekend before it expires.

Destiny 2 is out now for PS4, Xbox One, PC and Stadia.
