Destiny 2's much-anticipated expansion, Beyond Light, is less than three weeks away. As players prepare for the massive shift the game will undergo, Bungie has released another story teaser, this time featuring the old Fallen friend, Variks.

When Beyond Light launches next month, Destiny 2 players will be greeted with a vastly different game. Not only will the story venture into uncharted territory, but many of the old settings fans have come to love will also be vaulted. Alongside this change, parts of Destiny 1 will be brought into Destiny 2, including the character of Variks.

The character spotlight starts with a quote from Variks himself, stating that Darkness only leads to death. The expansion will heavily involve the Darkness, so this warning is not out of place, however, the finale of the Interference missions ended with a message stating the opposite. In it, the Darkness reached out to Guardians and asserted that the Light instead was the cause of death.

Variks then claims to have seen what the Darkness, more specifically, the power of Stasis, has done to Eramis, the Fallen leader on Europa. Variks was also open about this observation in the Beyond Light story trailer from yesterday. All of these seem to indicate a fallout between Variks and the group of Fallen he once trusted and followed to the ice covered moon.

He follows his stance on the Darkness by suggesting that Guardians may prove to be different. For those who don't know, Beyond Light will not only introduce Eramis' cult to Stasis, but also player characters. As Variks says this, he is seen holding a canister glowing with the distinct indigo color of Stasis. The teaser then abruptly ends with the message "Embrace the Darkness." Regarding all of these, it's could be speculated that Variks has stolen a piece of Stasis power to give his new allies, the Guardians, a taste of it and see how they'll react.

Bungie released a character sheet yesterday on its blog that introduced the main roster of characters players will meet in Beyond Light. All of this new media combined gives more insight into Variks' quest on Europa, as well as his alignment and allegiances. He will, in fact, be the one calling Guardians to help with the Dark empire that is rising on Europa, which will start off campaign missions.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light releases November 10, 2020, for PC, PS4, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. The PS5 version will be available on November 12.
