Those hoping to get a release date for this summer’s Destiny 2 Beta may just get their wish very soon. Activision and Bungie are promising to reveal more details about the beta for the popular sci-fi shooter at E3 2017 next week.

In a press release from Activision, the company said to expect news about the Destiny 2 Open Beta at E3:

[L]ook for announcements about the Destiny 2 Open Beta during E3.

Activision and Bungie have both been tight-lipped when it comes to an actual release date for the Beta, only saying that it would arrive this summer. In addition to the Open Beta, fans can also get early access to the Beta by pre-ordering the game from any retailer.

Some are predicting that the Beta will appear in July, perhaps even on July 7, which is known as Bungie Day to the developer’s fans. Although, Bungie Day has not included any big reveals or news in recent years, instead being positioned by Bungie as a time to celebrate its fans.

There’s always a chance, however slight, that the rug gets pulled out from under fans and a Closed Beta or Alpha gets announced, similar to what occurred for Destiny 1 when Sony revealed and released a First Look Alpha for PS4 owners back at E3 2014.

Again, this is all conjecture and gamers will have to wait until next week to find out more. Also unknown is how long Early Access to Open Beta will last. There aren’t any details on when this information will be revealed, but given Destiny’s close relationship with PlayStation, Sony’s press conference on Monday, June 12 would likely be the first opportunity for any announcement.

Since the Destiny 2 gameplay reveal was not that long ago, Bungie isn't expected to reveal too much in the way of new information at E3. In fact, the Destiny 2 demos at the event will be almost exactly the same as those featured at last month's showcase. However, what will be new is the Arcstrider Hunter subclass will be playable.

Destiny 2 is set to release September 8, 2017 on PS4 and Xbox One, with a release on PC coming at a later unannounced date.
