Destiny 2 players first encountered the massive spaceship called The Almighty, crown jewel of the Red Legion, during the Red War campaign in vanilla Destiny 2. It was too big to take over or destroy, thus, its main weapon was merely disabled to halt the threat.

According to Sloane, The Almighty is deployed on systems that refuse to submit to the Red Legion. The ship essentially forces a star to go supernova and razes the entire system in the process. This season, in an attempt to avenge the Cabal lost during the war, a Psion sent the dysfunctional ship hurtling through space, straight towards Earth.

All season long, the story motivation was The Almighty possibly crashing into Earth. The Season of the Worthy reveal trailer even showcased citizens looking up at the sky to see the massive ship. Ever since, players have been eagerly waiting for The Almighty to appear in the skybox. The vessel made its first appearance last week, as a thin streak across the sun. With the latest weekly reset, it got quite a bit closer. See the comparison screenshots below to get an idea:

Based on a couple of reference images, it is generally accepted that The Almighty's width is comparable to Mercury's diameter. With the help of some math, it could be estimated that last week, The Almighty was 1.5 times closer to Earth than the Moon is. This week, it is 5.5 times closer and will likely speed up as it approaches.

The Almighty is an exceptionally large ship, and it will be difficult for Rasputin to even deflect the massive object. If The Almighty were to graze any part of Earth, let alone crashing directly into the Last City, there would be a planet-wide extinction event. Let's hope the community has completed enough Seraph Tower events to save humanity.

A few players had previously received an in-game notification calling them to help Rasputin destroy The Almighty. There may be a cutscene at the end of this week showing the full power of the satellite network players helped build for Rasputin clashing with The Almighty.

There was also speculation about players embarking on one final mission to The Almighty to plant a targeting beacon to ensure Rasputin doesn't miss the mark. Or, the Warmind could simply be waiting for the ship to be in-range before firing. This may be why the Tower will suffer some damage soon, since players had glitched into a destroyed instance of the Tower earlier this season.

There is only a week left in Season of the Worthy, which leaves Bungie very little time to resolve the narrative tension that has built up. However, there may not be a reveal or cutscene until the season concludes as many fans are speculating that there will be a game-changing story event at the end of the week which sets the stage for next season. Bungie could be keeping its cards close to its chest as revealing this event would spoil the surprise.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
