The PlayStation 5 is now available, and Demon's Souls is one of the biggest launch games of the generation. Dark Souls fans who missed the game's original release on PS3, as well as returning Demon's Souls fans excited to see what Bluepoint Games has done, are currently combing the world. Some realized that Bluepoint appears to have snuck something surprising into the game for fans both new and old, as Demon's Souls has a mystery that appears to be entirely new content for players to solve.

A poster on Reddit named OrganizedBonfire posted a clip of their Demon's Souls gameplay that raised a lot of eyebrows early Saturday. The clip shows the player exploring stage 1-3, Boletaria, and discovering an illusory wall. Beyond this wall is a locked door. The thing is, neither the illusory wall nor the doorway are found in the original game. Outside of the pre-order and Deluxe Edition content for Demon's Souls, this seems to be the first new content discovered in the game thus far.

Fearing that the door may just be a trick from Bluepoint, a false doorway that hints at new content but doesn't actually lead to anything, Demon's Souls players did some investigating. Using the new Photo Mode in Demon's Souls, a player was able to twist around the locked door and see what's behind. There's a small courtyard area, which isn't particularly exciting. However, there does appear to be an item waiting for players.

Demon's Souls players are already theorizing about how to open the door, thinking over what the item could be. So far, players have eliminated possible mechanisms to open the door throughout stage 1-3, changes due to Pure Black and Pure White World Tendencies, as well as several other possibilities. So far, there are a lot of theories, but nothing concrete. Luckily, this kind of mystery is exactly what veteran Souls fans tend to love about the franchise.

Some are questioning why Bluepoint would add any sort of new content when it'd previously said there wouldn't be anything of the sort. However, fans were quick to note that this isn't the first time Bluepoint has done this. The team also added an Easter egg in Shadow of the Colossus. Similarly, there was a locked door that took the community working together to discover the secret to unlocking it.

Knowing the Souls community, this kind of thing likely won't take long to solve. However, knowing Bluepoint Games, the developer likely made it more challenging than normal knowing how excited the Souls community will be about new mysteries.

Demon's Souls is available now on PS5.
