Magic builds in Demon's Souls make the entire experience feel very different. Depending on how players specialize their character and what types of magic they pursue, they may be ranged offensive masters or defensive close ranged combatants. The divine magic in the game, called Miracles, tends to favor the latter pursuit, but players can still deal heavy damage with the right options. Some classes like the Priest and Temple Knight start with a heal spell and talisman, but other classes will need to find a Talisman of God and learn some spells before they can start casting Miracles.

There are a grand total of 12 Miracles in Demon's Souls, far fewer than the 22 Magic Spells, but that doesn't mean there aren't effective builds that use Faith over Magic. Miracle users also benefit from requiring fewer stats, as the Faith stat handles Miracle scaling as well as Miracle Attunement slots whereas Magic users need both the Magic and Intelligence stats. By nature of how miracles work, most players will want to combine their use with another build so this efficiency in their stats makes sense. In order to get more miracles, players will need to buy them from one of two merchants in the game.

Disciple of God

Demon's Souls Disciple of God Miracle shop

The Disciple of God can be found in the Nexus at the very beginning of the gamer. Player's don't even need to defeat the Phalanx boss first, just head to the left side of the Nexus to find three NPCs mulling about. The one that sells Miracles is the central one sitting on the statue. The Disciple of God requires players to trade Souls for Miracles, meaning purchasing some may stall the rate at which players level. These Miracles are usually more than useful enough to justify this, so don't be shy about purchasing a few.

  • Antidote | 3000 Souls | The Antidote Miracle does exactly what it sounds like it does, cures poison. Unfortunately, it will not help players that are dealing with plague status effects, but will still be extremely useful in Swamp of Sorrow (world 5-2) area where poison is abundant.
  • Evacuate | 20,000 Souls | Perhaps one of the most useful Miracles in the game, Evacuate allows players to return to the Nexus without losing any Souls. This is amazing if players died in a boss room and need to collect them and get out, and replaces the need for players to use a Shard of Archstone item.
  • Heal | 5000 Souls | A staple of any Faith user's repertoire, Heal restores health to the player alone based on their Faith stat. Unfortunately, this spell doesn't help with healing allies in co-op, but can be invaluable to the player if they're running out of healing items. Pair this with the Fragrant Ring for MP regeneration and players will have much higher survivability.
  • Hidden Souls | 3000 Souls | Hidden Soul is unique as it only really comes into play for PVP. While this spell is active, Black Phantoms will have a harder time seeing the player. Offline Black Phantoms have their aggro range reduced by 25%, while online Black Phantoms will only see a slight silhouette of the player.

Saint Urbain

Demon's Souls Saint Urbain Miralce Shop

The other merchant that can sell Miracles to players is Saint Urbain, but unlocking his services will be a bit more involved. First, players must reach the The Ritual Path (world 4-2) and progress until they meet a character named Patches the Hyena. He will show the player an area that supposedly houses great treasure and then kick them in. Once in this area, players must defeat a Black Phantom wielding an Uchigatana and talk to Saint Urbain. He will thank the player and go back to the Nexus. Saint Urbain sells all spells that the Disciple of God does in addition to eight more spells obtained by trading Demon's Souls with him.

  • Regeneration | Swollen Demon's Soul | The Regeneration Miracle causes the player to regenerate 1% of their maximum HP per second for 100 seconds. Aside from being a full heal, this spell also works well to counter the negative effects of life draining weapons or the Curse Weapon spell.
  • Recovery | 3x Colorless Demon's Soul | Recovery is essentially an upgraded version of Heal, costing a bit more MP but restoring significantly more health upon use. This is the only spell in the game that requires more than one Demon's Soul to purchase. Costs two Miracle Attunement slots.
  • Second Chance | Hero's Demon's Soul | Second Chance is a unique Miracle that can mean the difference between a successful boss battle and a failed one. After casting the spell, if the player dies they are instead revived with 50% of their HP. This effect is permanent until the revival takes place. It's important to note that players aren't invincible while reviving, though, and can still die again. Costs two Miracle Attunement slots.
  • Resurrection | Pureblood Demon's Soul | Though similar to Second Chance, Resurrection is actually a way for players to help others. When using this spell, any nearby Blue Phantoms in the world will regain their human form without having to defeat a boss and be sent back to their world.
  • Cure | Wriggling Demon's Soul | An upgrade to the Antidote Miracle, Cure removes all negative status effects from the user, including Poison, Plague, and Bleed. Like Antidote, this Miracle is especially useful in the Swamp of Sorrow area.
  • Banish | Yellow Demon's Soul | For those that hate the PVP aspects of Souls games, this Miracle is a godsend. Using it will return any nearby Black Phantoms to their world, removing the need to fight them. Costs two Miracle Attunement slots.
  • Anti-Magic Field | Storm Demon's Soul | While Anti-Magic Field is active, the user and any enemies nearby are unable to cast Magic Spells. Notably, this Miracle does not prohibit the use of other Miracles, nor does it affect Blue Phantoms on the player's team. The effect lasts for one minute. Costs two Miracle Attunement slots.
  • God's Wrath | Dragon Demon's Soul | The most powerful Miracle in most Souls games and the only damaging one in Demon's Souls, God's Wrath creates a burst of energy in a huge AoE that damages all nearby enemies. This attack can hit enemies through walls and other obstacles and has high knockback and guard break potential. The damage scales with Faith, so this spell is best used by players that have heavily invested in that stat. Costs two Miracle Attunement slots.
