Demon Slayer is once again receiving a lot of attention, thanks to the third season of its beautiful anime and captivating story that has garnered many die-hard fans throughout the years.
As the story progresses in Demon Slayer, so do the many characters and organizations on their journeys to achieving their goals. One of the most important and iconic groups that the anime has showcased is that of the Hashiras – a group made up of the nine most skilled and powerful Demon Slayers the Demon Slayer Corps has to offer. One can only receive this position by either slaying 50 demons or killing a member of the 12 Kizuki. The members of the Hashira are diverse and vary in age.
9 Muichiro Tokito - The Mist Hashira
Muichiro Tokito is the youngest out of the Hashiras, being only 14 years old. He is recognized as a prodigy among the Demon Corps, becoming a Hashira only two months after becoming a Demon Slayer. This shouldn’t come as a surprise seeing as he’s a descendant of the Upper Rank One Demon, Kokushibo.
His accomplishments as the Mist Hashira reflect his great strength and skill, being able to defeat an Upper Rank Moon single-handedly.
8 Shinobu Kocho - The Insect Hashira
The beloved Insect Hashira, Shinobu Kocho, is the second youngest Hashira at 18 years old. She is also the younger sister of a former Hashira, Kanae Kocho, the flower Hashira.
While she isn’t strong physically, her power shines through her extremely high speed. She was able to outspeed the Upper Rank 2 Demon, Doma. She also has her powerful and potent wisteria poison that she uses to kill Demons.
7 Mitsuri Kanroji - The Love Hashira
The Hashira of Love, Mitsuri Kanroji, is a 19-year-old shy and passionate woman who originally joined the Demon Corps intending to find a husband there who would be stronger than her – a difficult quest for her to accomplish, seeing her power level.
She showcases immense strength, flexibility, and speed throughout her fights when she kills Upper Rank 5, Gyokko’s spawns. Another big accomplishment of hers is ripping off the Demon King’s arm with her bare hands.
6 Kyojuro Rengoku - The Flame Hashira
Kyojuro Rengoku is the late Hashira of Flame, a title he took from his father, Shinjuro Rengoku. He played an essential role during the Mugen Train arc before succumbing during his fight against the Upper Rank 3 Demon, Akaze, at only 20 years old.
He was an enthusiastic man with a kind heart, possessing a strong set of morals that he followed. Even though he died during his fight with Akaze, he still showed immense strength.
5 Sanemi Shinazugawa - The Wind Hashira
The Hashira of the Wind is none other than 21-year-old Sanemi Shinazugawa. A hot-blooded character, he has shown excitement over fighting powerful demons, seemingly taking pleasure in fighting them and he hates all demons deeply due to all the human losses he accumulated over the years because of them.
His combat prowess is well shown throughout the series, as he, alongside Gyomei Himejima, were the 2 Hashiras who finally put an end to the strongest Upper Moon, Kokushibo.
4 Obanai Iguro - The Serpent Hashira
The Serpent Hashira, Obanai Iguro, is yet another 21-year-old among the Hashiras. He is a strict individual who is very serious about abiding by the Demon Slayer rules. Despite this, and also his allergy to women, he gets along very well with his fellow Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji.
He is blind in his right eye, yet he is a fierce fighter. This was shown throughout the manga, especially when he almost beheaded the Demon King Muzan. He was also one of the biggest aids overall during the final fight against Muzan.
3 Giyu Tomioka - The Water Hashira
While Giyu Tomioka was 19 at the time of his first appearance, when he comes back into the story he is 21 years old, sharing his age with fellow Hashiras Obanai and Sanemi. He is the first Hashira fans meet, appearing in chapter 1.
The Water Hashira was able to defeat Lower Rank 5 Rui and many other Demons of the same level. He was able to fight well against the Upper Rank 3 Demon Akaze and also played an important role in the fight against Muzan.
2 Tengen Uzui - The Sound Hashira
The second oldest Hashira, the Sound Hashira, Tengen Uzui is 23 years old. He played a big role during the Entertainment District arc but retired from his role as a Hashira and Demon Slayer corps member after those events, a decision heavily judged by Obanai.
His fighting skills were on display during the Entertainment District Arc, where he fought proficiently against Upper Rank Six Moons Gyutaro and Daki. In the Hashiras, he was ranked as the second highest in strength, and the first in terms of running speed.
1 Gyomei Himejima - The Stone Hashira
The oldest of the bunch, the Stone Hashira, Gyomei Himejima is 27 years old. He is a giant with a soft heart who cries over insignificant things, but despite all that, he is easily one of the most powerful Hashiras.
With the help of Sanemi Shinazugawa, he was able to kill the Upper Rank 1 Kizuki, Kokushibo, by crushing his head with his flail. Even among the Hashiras, his strength stands out. He also contributed to the fight against the Demon King.
