Swedish Developer Resolution Games announced the PS5 port of Demeo during Sony’s State of Play event on September 13. A VR tabletop RPG, the co-op cross-platform dungeon crawler lets players join their friends in digital tabletop adventures. Released for VR headsets last year, the game arrived on Steam in May, and launches for PlayStation 5 and PSVR2 in 2023.

Resolution’s CEO Tommy Palm briefly discussed Demeo in a press release accompanying the game’s latest trailer. He described the studio’s vision for Demeo and emphasized his desire to make the game available on as many platforms as possible.

“When we created Demeo, we did so with the understanding that playing with friends would be the most important part of the experience,” Palm explained. “To continue to build on that vision, we are committed to ensuring Demeo is available everywhere that players want to be and fully cross-play across all devices.” According to Palm, this is why developers are so excited to bring Demeo to PlayStation 5 and the upcoming PlayStation VR 2. The game also supports cross-platform multiplayer, letting friends play together regardless of their preferred virtual-reality system.

Tuesday’s trailer gave PS5 users a window into what they can expect from Demeo. Like the upcoming D&D Digital, Demeo attempts to recreate the experience of joining friends around the gaming table. Players move their digital miniatures across highly detailed maps, casting spells and abilities with virtual cards, and decide the outcome of battles with virtual dice. Demeo also emphasizes the social aspect of tabletop gaming. Players will need to communicate and coordinate as they develop the strategies they’ll need to achieve victory. They can also socialize, customize their miniatures, listen to music, and read lore books in a virtual hangout.

Players can experience Demeo in and out of VR, though developers say that the still in development PlayStation VR2 offers various technological benefits. These include eye-tracking for menu selection, a 120hz refresh rate, and haptic feedback. The latter helps to simulate the feeling of moving pieces and rolling dice and lets developers add some extra impact to significant actions.

Resolution Games haven’t set an exact release date for Demeo’s PS5 port. However, it will contain all the new classes and adventures developers have added since launch. This includes a fifth adventure coming between now and Demeo’s PS5 release. The developers did not say anything about the game’s planned PVP mode, which Resolution plans to launch later this year. However, it seems likely that developers will bring the mode to PS5 if possible.

There’s no word on whether Demeo might eventually come to the Xbox Series X/S. Xbox Consoles currently lack VR support, and the console manufacturer hasn’t announced plans to change that. Still, the fact that Demeo doesn’t require VR on PC and won’t on the PS5 could indicate that it isn’t totally impossible.

Demeo is available now for PC, Oculus Quest and Rift, HTC Vive, Valve Index, and Windows Mixed Reality and launches on PS5 and PSVR2 in 2023.
