The successor and alternate story to Undertale known as Deltarune has recently dropped its latest demo. The first chapter was launched on for free on PC and Mac, created once again by Undertale creator Toby Fox. It launched Halloween 2018, with a three year gap of news for fans. This newest Deltarune demo contains the second chapter of the game, where it launched on the PC for itch.io and Steam.

The second chapter of Deltarune continues the adventures of Kris, Susie, and Ralsei taking them to another adventure in the Dark World. The humor and battle mechanics are the same since the last chapter, complete with a charming story, witty dialogue, funny characters, and a killer soundtrack. There's a lot going on in this new chapter, and players can pick right where they last left the game three years ago. This release is a bit unconventional, as acknowledged by Toby Fox in a recent update after the demo went live.

The update starts with Toby Fox being proud of the team he had put together to bring Deltarune together, thanking key team members like Temmie Chang and Sarah O’Donnell for their contributions towards the game. He also acknowledged that Deltarune's second chapter was one of the largest in the game. Toby Fox then provided an update on where the game will be going from here, as well as the release model and price of the next chapters.

Deltarune Update

Part of the reason of Deltarune's slow updates is due to a variety of factors, the first being this is still mostly a solo project by Toby Fox, with the full game and its following chapters intended to be released all at once. The release of Deltarune: Chapter 2 has changed these plans, with his justification being that the long release gaps can burn out fans and creators. Toby Fox hopes that once the team for Deltarune expands, the game's development can pick up. His next intention is to finish the next three chapters which will then be given a price.

When the topic of the game's full retail price came up in the update, he stated it was an unsure number, but it would cost more than Undertale at its current retail price. Some of his other thoughts on the project involve that since indie games aren't released like this for free normally, and fans should aim to support other indie creators. He stated that if fans really enjoyed Deltarune and wanted to support him directly, they can buy the soundtrack off of Bandcamp as well. The demos on PS4 and Switch currently only contain Chapter 1.

Deltarune: Chapters 1 and 2 are available now for PC via itch.io and Steam.
