At this point, all manner of unintentional things have been caught on Twitch livestreams. Most recently, Awkwards_Travel, a pair of Twitch streamers were stranded at sea for nearly four hours after their boat’s engine failed. The pair are documenting their trip around the Mediterranean Sea and managed to safely avoid any collisions while awaiting a tug boat to rescue them.

Swatting is of course another unfortunate occurrence on Twitch streams, such as when PixelKitten was swatted during a charity stream on June 18. Her father was warned by law enforcement that someone had called about an armed shooter at their home. Of course, officers needed to check out the situation, but they were luckily aware of the possibility of swatting and gave PixelKitten time to put away her protective dog before they arrived.

On June 25, Twitch content creator Rellik captured another incident during an IRL stream on the platform. While driving down a freeway, the streamer began slowing down to get onto the offramp as other vehicles zipped by on the left. Rellik’s camera inadvertently caught an SUV hitting a deer. The vehicle was likely going at least 60 MPH and the animal, which was practically invisible in the video beforehand, was thrown off the road. The clip of the incident can be seen here, but be aware that its content may be troubling for some viewers.

Unfortunately, given the way the deer was struck by the moving SUV, it is unlikely that the animal survived the collision. In a second clip posted to Rellik’s Twitch channel, the content creator has approached the SUV and can be seen speaking to the two occupants as the passenger holds their small dog. Rellik tells them how to find the Twitch clip of the accident, probably for insurance purposes. Both of the vehicle’s occupants seem fine, though there is no footage of the SUV’s hood and so it’s unclear if it received any major damage from striking the deer.

There have of course been other, more troubling events captured on Twitch as well. Criminals have at times been able to capture an audience on the platform, such as in 2019 when a man livestreamed for 35 minutes as he attempted to enter a German synagogue with a weapon. Unable to gain access, he shot and killed two people outside before driving away. On May 14, 2022, a racially motivated mass shooting in Buffalo was livestreamed on Twitch for two minutes before the video was removed. New York Attorney General Letitia James is conducting an investigation into the event.
