Deep Rock Galactic has been available on PC and Xbox for some time, with the co-op shooter/mining game earning acclaim from fans and critics alike. Soon PlayStation gamers will get to see what all the fuss is about, as Deep Rock Galactic finally arrives on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on Tuesday, June 4. Better yet, Deep Rock Galactic is one of the free PS Plus games for January 2022, so PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to play it at no extra charge.

While PS Plus sometimes only makes one version of a game available, Deep Rock Galactic will be available to claim for both PS4 and PS5 users. However, the PlayStation 5 version of Deep Rock Galactic will have some extra features that should definitely make it the definitive choice over its last-gen counterpart. While gameplay-wise the games will be near-identical, the PS5 version of Deep Rock Galactic will offer some exclusive features through the use of the DualSense controller.

When playing Deep Rock Galactic on PS5, gamers will have the option to use the DualSense controller's touchpad to control the Terrain Scanner tool, and the speakers will be used to get orders from Mission Control. While these PS5 exclusive features aren't earth-shaking by any means, they still help give Deep Rock Galactic on PS5 a leg up over other versions of the game. After all, Deep Rock Galactic on PS5 has the same content as the other versions of the game plus the extra DualSense functionality as icing on the cake.

Deep Rock Galactic's PS5 features should make it more immersive than other versions of the game, and it seems like this will be a common theme for multiplatform titles this generation. The PS5 versions of games will have extra bells and whistles thanks to the DualSense controller, while those on other platforms will be missing out. However, it's possible Xbox fans may one day have a DualSense controller-equivalent.

Head of Xbox Phil Spencer has praised the PS5 DualSense controller, plus Microsoft has surveyed fans on how they feel about the controller's unique features. It stands to reason that an Xbox-equivalent DualSense controller with similar features could materialize at some point down the line, though it's hard to say for sure. In the meantime, multiplatform games like Deep Rock Galactic will likely continue to offer some extra features on PS5 through the DualSense controller, so those with multiple consoles will want to take that into consideration when deciding which platform they should buy a game for.

Deep Rock Galactic is out now for PC and Xbox One with PS4 and PS5 versions coming January 4.
