Deathloop from Dishonored developers Arkane Studios is out now and has earned rave reviews. All of the positive Deathloop reviews have helped propel the first-person shooter to the top, making it one of the highest-rated video games to have released in all of 2021 so far. Deathloop being a PS5 console exclusive means that Xbox fans are being left out of all the fun, but the game's success should ultimately be a good thing for Xbox and Game Pass in the long run.

Arkane Studios is owned by Bethesda, and is therefore owned by Xbox since Xbox acquired Bethesda earlier this year. Head of Xbox Phil Spencer has made it clear that acquiring Bethesda was a strategic move to ensure a pipeline of console exclusive games for Xbox and Game Pass. However, Xbox has honored previous exclusivity details signed between Bethesda and PlayStation, meaning that even though Deathloop was technically published by an Xbox-owned company, it will not be available for Xbox Series X or PC Game Pass for quite some time.

Reports indicate that the Deathloop PS5 exclusivity deal is for 12 months, meaning that Deathloop will be eligible for release on Xbox and Game Pass for the first time exactly one year from now. It's possible that Microsoft will release the Xbox version of Deathloop immediately, but it's also possible that it will hold back and wait to release the game at a slightly later date. Whatever the case may be, fans shouldn't expect Deathloop to hit Xbox or Game Pass until September 14, 2022 at the very earliest.

Right now, Deathloop is a strong PS5 console exclusive and undoubtedly gives Sony's next-generation console a significant boost. But while PS5 gamers have to pay $59.99 to play Deathloop, those who are subscribed to Xbox Game Pass know that they will eventually get to play the game themselves without spending anymore than what their Game Pass subscription costs. The only thing better than playing a high-quality game like Deathloop is doing so at an extremely low price of admission.

Deathloop's success should also serve as a boost to Xbox's public perception. The Xbox team had to dig themselves out of a hole due to the backlash surrounding the initial Xbox One reveal, and it seems to have successfully done so with Xbox Game Pass and major studio acquisitions. Deathloop's success could make fans more optimistic about Xbox's future prospects, as it and other Xbox-published games, like the recent Psychonauts 2, prove that the brand has a very bright future ahead of it.

Deathloop is out now for PC and PS5.
