Deathloop is filled with Arsenal Leads which provide Colt with special guns not found anywhere else. These are not so simple to earn, however. Players often have to complete a small or elaborate quest to finally snag the firearm.

The Heritage Gun in Deathloop is a multi-purpose shotgun that anybody who likes up close and personal firefights should use. This guide will tell players all they need to know about unlocking this firearm. Like many Leads in Deathloop, the requirements for unlocking the Heritage Gun change for each player and on each loop. The short story to winning the Heritage Gun is going to a building within Karl's Bay at night and then opening up a series of boxes before a final challenge to unlock the case holding the gun. For a more detailed explanation, read on below. Be careful, though, because it is quite easy to fail this Arsenal Lead at almost any point, forcing players to restart the day for a second shot.

Updated On November 5th, 2021, by Jason Wojnar: Deathloop was released to an extremely positive reception. Its unique gameplay mechanic got its hooks in gamers and critics agreed that it is perhaps one of the best games of 2021. The other fortunate side effect of its success is having the studio's other games, like Prey and Dishonored, receive renewed time in the spotlight. People who picked up the game in recent weeks after the big launch might want to take a look at this guide and the others on this site to more easily find the answers to some of the game's toughest puzzles and quests. Most importantly, players have to remember to infuse the gun after acquiring it.

Where To Find The Heritage Gun in Deathloop

The first step toward unlocking the Heritage Gun is visiting Karl's Bay at night. Right after exiting, the player will overhear two guards talking about a box nearby. Look at what they are doing and the two guards will open the box and it will explode.

Follow the road the two guards are on to the right. At the end of it is a building. This is where the Heritage Gun is locked away. Next to it is a map showcasing the locations of the boxes Colt has to locate. Charlie Montague will start speaking and announce the rules of the game.

The boxes either provide small gifts or explode. To know which result, take a look at the slots spinning in front. If it shows up as skulls, run away immediately because the box will explode.

Box Locations

Several of the box locations change with each leap, but there are a couple that always stays the same. These boxes always show up during the quest:

  • Dawn Of Reason: In the middle of the map underneath a cave is a bar called the Dawn of Reason. Flip the switch nearby to open the door. To the left is a room locked by a combination. To figure out the combination, look around the room for white circles with tally marks in the center. The paintings are all in two different places, and the player has to stand at the right spot in the room to see it from the right perspective. Once players flip the first switch, they are on a timer that fails the quest for the day, forcing gamers to restart the loop. However, there is also a way to sneak into the Dawn of Reason and find out the combination at one's leisure.

  • The 2nd hangar: This is the same hangar where Harriet is in the morning. The box is locked and there are several switches scattered around the area. Once the player pulls the first lever, a countdown starts and they have to pull all the other switches in sequence. The next can be found by listening to how loud or quiet the clicking sound is. There is no penalty for failure so players can try as many times as they need.

Other Important Boxes

All the other boxes change with each loop. Just take a look at the map for the locations. Most of them are simply surrounded by guards, but there are a few that require special tactics to reach.

  • In between the two hangars: This one is surrounded by proximity mines. If Colt sets off one too close to the box, the box blows up and he fails the Arsenal Lead. A trinket lets players hack mines and deactivate them Otherwise, crouch slowly towards it and listen for the beeps. The mines can be deactivated by hand before getting too close. Do not shoot them, otherwise the box might be caught in the blast
deathloop hangar box trip mines
  • The first hangar: this box is surrounded by trip mines. There are several ways to reach it, but the easiest is by going to the second floor and dropping down to it from the left side of the room. Having the Trinket with the double jump and the Shift Slab helps to navigate the minefield.

  • Outside the hangar: This one is under a plane outside the second hangar. It is surrounded by turrets that quickly kill Colt. Stay behind cover and hack the turrets. Players have to be relatively close and in the player's sites to hack, but once hacking starts Colt can be a little further away and behind cover.

The Final Challenge

Once all the boxes are open, Charlie announces that there is one more prize to be had if the player is fast enough. Return to the room with the map as fast as possible and open the door with the green light over it. There is one more obstacle course to accomplish.

Like the switch puzzle in the second hangar, players have to pull them in a certain order before the timer runs out. If players trip the blue wires, the challenge is failed and must be restarted. It is also impossible to use slabs here, so Shift won't help. The countdown is not challenging as long as one knows where the switches are. Play it slow and steady and the game provides plenty of time for Colt to activate all the switches.

After successfully accomplishing the challenge, the case in the prior room is unlocked and Colt now has the Heritage Gun.

The Heritage Gun

The Heritage Gun is both a shotgun and a rifle, being one of the few guns with two distinct firing modes. It utilizes shotgun shells and Colt cannot dual-wield it. It packs a punch even against Julianna. Any player who wants to keep it has to be wary of their Residuum. Because the Arsenal Lead is in the evening, going back into the tunnel activates the next loop.

It costs a ton of Residuum to infuse the Heritage Gun. It would be unfortunate to go through all the work only to lose the gun because players simply could not afford to infuse it. Be sure to have enough Residuum or at least enough expendable items to sacrifice in order to infuse the weapon. If players start the next day without infusing it, they will have to do the Arsenal Lead again.

Deathloop is out now for PS5 and PC.
