Deathloop is the next major title from developer Arkane Studios and is an entirely new IP for the team. Arkane Studios is most well known for the Dishonored series of games, as well as developing 2017’s Prey. Deathloop, as the name suggests, focuses on time loop gameplay from a first-person perspective. The game centers around an assassin named Colt who is stuck in a time loop who must kill eight targets before midnight, while being hunted by another assassin, Julianna. Failing to kill all targets or getting killed in the process will reset the time loop.

The game was showcased further during Sony’s PS5 reveal with an action-packed trailer where fans learned a bit more about the game’s world and gameplay. In Arkane’s QuakeCon at home presentation, the team revealed players can actually take on the role of Julianna in other players games in a pseudo-multiplayer fashion. Alternatively, this option can be opted out of and Julianna will be controlled by an AI. Arkane also detailed Blackreef Island, describing it as a northern island with a 60s pop-art flare where parties are constantly held.

Deathloop’s immersive multiplayer fulfilled a dream that Arkane held for many years while developing games for older hardware. Finally, Arkane’s presentation ended by detailing how Deathloop will benefit from PS5’s various performance enhancing features, like the Dualsense’s haptic feedback, smooth framerate, as well as 4K and HDR support. According to Deathloop’s Game Director, Dinga Bakaba, the game will be “a feast for the senses,” on the PlayStation 5.

It was certainly nice to see so many new details getting confirmed for Deathloop, as well as getting clarification on a variety of topics that were shown off previously. It’s very likely that Deathloop won’t be the only game getting further detailed during the event, so interested fans should keep an eye on QuakeCon at Home’s schedule to see what events are happening next.

Deathloop is in development for PC and PS5.
