Deathloop Is Arkane Studios' most recent title and takes the immersive sim concept - a term almost synonymous with the studio - one step forward by introducing a unique multiplayer component. At almost any time during a gaming session, Julianna can invade the player's game and hunt them down.
The player can either defend themselves from her or hack an antenna on the map and leave the area to survive. If players are just starting Deathloop and are wondering when they can control Julianna, read the following guide to learn just how far into the game one needs to be to jump into her shoes.
Who Is Julianna?
Julianna is introduced almost immediately in the story. However, in the beginning, she is exclusively controlled by an AI to acclimate the player to Deathloop's unique hook. The game clearly explains what Julianna does during the course of the game and how to escape her. Part of the mystery is uncovering Colt and Julianna's relationship and discovering why she so badly wants to stop him from breaking the loop.
How To Play As Julianna
On the menu, there are two options; Break the Loop and Protect the Loop. Break the Loop is the main campaign where Colt tries to break the loop everybody is going through. Protect the Loop has players control Julianna.
Here there is a separate progression and new challenges only Julianna can accomplish. At first, Julianna starts with a modest loadout, but she earns more powers as gamers play and earn more points. However, Protect the Loop is currently locked, and players cannot select it. The game simply says to keep playing as Colt to unlock it.
To unlock Julianna, players have to play until killing the first visionary, Wenjie, and unlocking the ability to infuse weapons and abilities. All the gameplay until here acts as the tutorial. At this point, players are guided through the experience and told pretty clearly where to go. The mission is called The Longest Day. Once this is completed, wake up again and kill Julianna the first time, she starts being controlled by humans, and fans can then play as her and invade other players' games. All in all, this takes about 2 hours.

Some clues and branching paths reveal themselves during these early stages, but it's recommended to ignore these until later. Many of them cannot be completed until players have more slab powers unlocked by killing the Visionaries. Once players get to this point, the game opens up significantly, and they can tackle different objectives, investigate clues, and get hunted by Julianna.
Can You Turn Off Julianna?
If players find Julianna too obtrusive, it is possible to play in offline mode. Go into Break the Loop and then move the cursor to the top left corner of the screen where players' PSN name is written. Press X on this to toggle between Online Mode, Friends Only Mode, and Single Player Mode.
