Arkane Studio's Deathloop has been highly praised by both fans and critics alike, with many taking note of the game's time loop mechanics. However, not everyone is completely happy. Recently, it was revealed that the PC version of the action first-person game is experiencing some issues, particularly in regard to stuttering. The cause of this has been blamed on the game's DRM software, Denuvo, to such an extent that Deathloop was getting review bombed on Steam. However, some tests have been performed which says that the stuttering problems are likely caused by something else.

According to a number of reports, and people experimenting with the game's settings, it seems that the reason the Deathloop PC community is experiencing these issues is not down to the anti-piracy feature that's built into the game. Tests show that it's most likely down to the framerate settings, with stutters being noticed when the game is running at between 60 and 90 fps. The general advice in this instance is to set the game to between 100 and 120 fps, where the issues seem to be resolved.

On top of this, people have noticed that the jittering issues are occurring when players are using a mouse rather than a controller. It seems, then, that using a gamepad will make the game run smoother. Both these suggest that it's not Denuvo that's to blame for the issues on the PC version of Deathloop. For those who don't know, Denuvo is a rather controversial anti-cheat software, which is used to stop people from pirating games, but it has been linked to numerous performance issues, which explains why it was blamed in this case.

However, this is not the only problem that the community is noticing about the game. Recently, a bug in the Deathloop was noticed in which player progress is being reset, specifically for the character Colt. As of this article going live, the studio has not yet commented on the bug. However, it does seem that it's only affecting a minority of players, which does not seem to be the case for the PC issues.

A spokesperson for Bethesda has said the studio will look into the stuttering problem. What this entails has not been discussed, but it's safe to assume that it will probably be a PC update. It is a shame that so many people are experiencing these annoying issues with the game, as the rest of the community seem to be thoroughly enjoying it, especially the detailed in-game food.

Deathloop is now available on PC and PS5.
