Arkane Studios's latest flagship title, Deathloop, is getting a substantial new content update across all platforms on September 20 titled Goldenloop. Featuring the largest batch of post-launch content the game has received since its 2021 release, Goldenloop promises to upgrade most aspects of the game and serves as a bit of a follow-up to its Xbox launch earlier in September.

Whereas Deathloop hasn't received any major expansion packs like Arkane Studios' games often do, it is getting more free post-launch content instead. Goldenloop, specifically, isn't quite as substantial as an actual paid DLC, but it does introduce a variety of new elements to the game's meta, each of which may prove instrumental in coming up with new strategies and approaches to the core gameplay progression.

The Goldenloop update releases on September 20 to celebrate Deathloop's Xbox console launch, and promises a huge array of systemic upgrades for players to engage with. Additions include the Halps Prototype beam weapon, a Fugue ability for Colt, upgrades for Julianna's Masquerade ability, and the Paint-Bomber enemy type. Perhaps most importantly, the game now also supports optional crossplay matchmaking, allowing PC, PlayStation, and Xbox players to compete in Deathloop's asymmetrical PvP, should they wish to do so.

While it had been suggested that Deathloop may have a big month ahead of it this September, Arkane and Bethesda had successfully kept the Goldenloop update under wraps up until now. Most players had expected that the big piece of news would be the game's Xbox release on September 14. But with a new weapon, enemy types, slabs, and the availability of a cross-platform matchmaking feature, players have received another big chunk of content to have fun with.

Some are still hoping to see a full-fledged Deathloop expansion pack at some point in time, as the game's initial narrative certainly left more than enough room for Arkane Studios to do whatever it wants with it. However, now that the Goldenloop update has been properly revealed, one could make the argument that Arkane is simply cleaning up shop before fully moving on to Redfall, its next flagship release.

Curiously, Redfall's extensive gameplay showcases imply that Arkane may be leaning more heavily towards the shooter side of the equation with its latest projects. Whereas the developer has previously worked almost exclusively on immersive sims like Dishonored and Prey, Deathloop is more of a straightforward FPS, which seems to be the case with Redfall as well.

Deathloop is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
