Death Stranding's latest trailer is now available after several days of teases from Sony and Kojima Productions. The trailer, as strange as those prior, confirms that the PlayStation 4 exclusive will launch on the leaked release date of November 8. At a duration of near nine minutes, the "Release Date Reveal Trailer" is exactly what excited fans were looking forward to. The Death Stranding trailer is filled with oddities in line with expectations, as well as hints at the gameplay that lies deeper within.

Mads Mikkelsen is front and center in the trailer, with an opening cinematic sequence showing his in-game character Cliff talking to what's assumed to be the supernatural baby featured in prior trailers. Mikkelsen's performance is haunting, much like most of Death Stranding. His character reappears later in the trailer in full military kit to summon a squad of undead soldiers. There's so much that's unknown about Death Stranding, but Mads Mikkelsen's role is at the heart of it.

As heavily as cinematics are used throughout the trailer, and likely the game as well, a good amount of gameplay is shown in the new Death Stranding trailer. We see Norman Reedus' character Sam on a motorcycle exploring a rocky yet green environment, a shattered suburban landscape, and a snowy mountaintop. He uses a variety of tools including a climbing ladder and robe gear to traverse cliff faces. And then there's also combat shown, both melee fighting and gunplay. But the scope of Sam's abilities, nevermind his goals, remains mysterious. Especially so after a scene featuring Sam sneaking around the ghostly "B.T.s" and capture.

While today's reveal trailer may be the most persuasive yet regarding Death Stranding's gameplay actions, goals, and structure, much remains left to the imagination. Kojima's known for his abstract ideas, but Death Stranding is clearly taking it to another level. And free from the reigns of Konami's heavy oversight, he's being much more directly political, too. It's both hard not to be excited about Death Stranding and hard not to be mystified by this lengthy new trailer.

Today's reveal trailer will be all that fans see of Death Stranding for some time, it seems. Given that Sony is skipping E3 2019, the next known opportunity for Kojima Productions to share more information about the game would be August's Gamescom or the Tokyo Games Show later in September. There's also the possibility of Sony moving its PlayStation Experience event earlier in the year, as it's usually in December. Wherever it's shown next, Death Stranding is now certain to draw the eyes of PS4 fans.
