In just six hours, Kojima Productions' latest trailer for Death Stranding managed to break records upon its release. The trailer gives a look at Mads Mikkelsen's character Cliff, his undead soldiers, melee and gunplay from Norman Reedus' character Sam, Death Stranding's release date, and a variety of environments in a mystifying manner suiting the allure of the game. And for this reason, perhaps, the trailer became the fastest viewed and liked video game trailer of 2019.

This comes from a US Sales Specialist who crunched the numbers on official channels, meaning that secondhand sources were not added into this already-impressive number. The main PlayStation channel, plus the ones in Japan and Europe, put Death Stranding over 2.1 million views in just 6 hours. What's more is that Death Stranding has also managed to surpass 200,000 likes on the main YouTube channel, which is made all the more impressive in comparison to the 3,700 dislikes on the trailer.

In breaking this record, Death Stranding surpassed the early metrics of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and that alone speaks highly of Kojima Productions. Considering that this is a brand new IP and there's still no clear indication of what exactly is going on, it appears Kojima's name helps boost the game's profile.

It's unclear when more information about Death Stranding will be revealed, especially since Sony is skipping E3 2019. There will be a few conventions before Death Stranding's November release date, but considering the spontaneity of this trailer reveal, it's likely to be peppered across the coming months. Still, today's reveal did much to answer some of the surrounding questions such as the names of all Death Stranding's characters.

Another key detail revealed today was how Death Stranding's story and gameplay were connected. Basically, Kojima calls it a new type of action game that focuses on reconnecting society and that everything is connected by a "strand." This still manages to be somewhat enigmatic, so until more is revealed (or Death Stranding is released), players will just have to wait and see what Kojima is brewing, but it's already breaking records.

Death Stranding releases November 8, exclusively on PS4.
