In this modern era of gaming, words like "upscaling" and "ray tracing" often get thrown around, having such technologies now forming an integral part of the industry. With Nvidia utilizing its RTX software in many AAA titles, its biggest rival AMD also has tricks up its sleeve. Team red's equivalent comes in the form of FidelityFX Super Resolution, or FSR, which is the company's open-source upscaling algorithm, with version 2.0 having recently come out. Given this, it now looks as though this tech is compatible with a bunch of modern games.

That's according to a recent report from WCCFTech, which cites a number of Reddit posts. It seems as though FSR 2.0 is now compatible in such games as Death Stranding, Metro Exodus: Enhanced Edition, and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. There are also instructions on how to implement the AI into each game. It should be pointed out that, as these are mods, users may find a few issues switching from Nvidia's DLSS, or Deep Learning Super Sampling, to the AMD equivalent, with the possibility of notable "ghosting." The report goes on to warn that such mods can't be used in online games, lest players risk a ban.

Since AMD launched the new version of its upscaling technology, there have been numerous attempts at implementing it into a bunch of popular releases. For example, a mod for Cyberpunk 2077 adds in FSR 2.0, which in itself was then used to add it into Red Dead Redemption 2, as well as a mod being made for Dying Light 2. Evidently, players are interested in some upscaling tech that rivals Nvidia's much more proprietary software. In any case, it's left up to users to decide whether they are interested in FSR 2.0 in their games, but many enjoy the extra visual and performance boost that such AI can give.

It's not just AMD and Nvidia that have upscaling, either. Intel also unveiled its XeSS software, which is allegedly supports games like Death Stranding, Hitman 3, and PUBG. Some may not be interested in such things, but given that upscaling can help improve graphical quality without additional strain on the hardware, many are finding it a useful feature, especially with open-source versions like FSR.

As if that wasn't enough, Apple recently talked about MetalFX, which is the tech giant's own upscaling algorithm, which was shipped with its new M2 chip. Clearly, upscaling is the future of gaming, and it looks as though players have a lot more choice on the market, though it's possible that AMD could be the ones to knock Nvidia off the top spot in the current market.
