Death Stranding is easily one of the most anticipated games of 2019, with many fans ready to award Hideo Kojima's latest passion project game of the year before it's even in their hands (or they really know what it is). So, when Kojima Productions finally announced that Death Stranding has gone gold, the game has already begun setting the internet ablaze with excitement that the November 8th release date is well within reach.

Fans have been waiting, mostly patiently, for news about Death Stranding since its initial reveal at E3 in 2016, along with countless delays and an endless string of complications. Many fans feared that the 2019 release date was nothing more than wishful thinking, which makes the sight of a completed game in Kojima's hands the small light of hope that fans have been hoping for from the game director and his team.

Even with a number of trailers, ranging between 7 minutes and clocking all the way up to a 48-minute gameplay tease, there is still a huge amount of mystery surrounding Death Stranding (including the name itself), which has only fed the fervor around the game. However, even with all of the confusion surrounding the game, fans have still been on the edge of their seats to see where Kojima Production is headed with their first major release after Kojima's exile from Konami. With the most recent memories of the legendary game creator stemming all the way back to Metal Gear Solid 5 and P.T., a planned lead-up to the unfinished Silent Hills, which was also set to star Death Stranding's Norman Reedus.

With Death Stranding having "gone gold" now, meaning the game is finished and ready to be played from start to finish, production can begin spitting out working disks and the team over at Kojima Productions will be focused entirely on fixing bugs and preparing the dreaded day one patch. This means that when November 8th finally comes around, it'll be coming with some cinematic, award-fodder that's sure to either be a shoe in for Game of the Year or one of the most divisive titles of all time, and that's without accounting for it's PS4 exclusivity.

It's been a long three year run, waiting for Death Stranding to finally hit store shelves and take its rightful place in PS4's across the world. One player/author will certainly be excited to see one of the strangest, creepiest, and mysterious gaming experiences of all time, arrive this year right on his birthday. Will it live up to the hype? Will anyone really understand it? Will it earn that GotY? Well, it is a Hideo Kojima game.

Death Stranding releases on November 8th, 2019 exclusively for the PS4.
