Death Stranding is a game where Norman Reedus walks around a post-apocalyptic world filled with ghosts, tied to a jar with a baby inside it. It's a weird game. It's so weird and hard to describe, in fact, that Death Stranding director Hideo Kojima has literally created a new genre for it.

In a post on Twitter, Kojima explained that Death Stranding, unlike his Metal Gear series, is not a stealth game. He also dismissed the idea that it is a shooting game either, though the most recent Death Stranding trailer did confirm that there will be guns used in combat. However, Kojima believes the game's focus on connection or "strand" makes it a completely new genre.

Hideo Kojima describes Death Stranding's genre as "action game/strand game (social strand system)." This is bizarre to say the least, but it appears that the game's themes of connection are truly the main focus of Death Stranding, at least in Kojima's eyes. This isn't the first time that Kojima has stressed the importance of connection in Death Stranding, so fans can expect it to be featured heavily throughout the experience.

This idea of connection will extend to Death Stranding's multiplayer mode as well. While Death Stranding players won't physically encounter others online, they will still be able to assist other people playing the game by sharing safehouses and sending them supplies.

We haven't actually seen Death Stranding's multiplayer in action yet, but a proper showcase of it will likely come ahead of the game's November launch. Then again, Kojima usually likes to be secretive when it comes to his projects, so maybe fans will just have to learn about the multiplayer while they're actually playing the game.

Regardless of a multiplayer showcase or lack thereof, there will likely at least be another trailer or two for Death Stranding before launch, so fans have that to look forward to at least. How substantial these presentations will be remains to be seen, however, especially considering how much the latest trailer revealed about the game.

Death Stranding will launch on November 8, exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
