Hideo Kojima and his team at Kojima Productions added a great deal of new content to Death Stranding Director's Cut. Along with several new pieces of equipment and a new mission, Kojima added a brand new speed-circuit racetrack to quell the boredom of living in a post-apocalyptic world. They even included the new Roadster, which Sam can use to live out his Cruella DeVille fantasies.

The Roadster, which was previously seen in The Art of Death Stranding, appeared to have been cut from the original release of Death Stranding. While it may seem slightly ridiculous to drive a vintage-themed roadster around a landscape blasted out by volcanic upheaval, when one remembers this is a Hideo Kojima game, things start to make much more sense. All joking aside, the roadster holds its own as the fastest vehicle in the game, with remarkable storage space for such a small car. Both it and the racetrack are surprisingly engaging new features to this already incredible game.

How to Unlock the Racetrack in Death Stranding Director's Cut

Look for the Email from Thomas Southerland

Before Sam can fabricate a Roadster at a chiral printer, he must first unlock the racetrack. The racetrack is located south of the Timefall Farmer and must be rebuilt using the same materials as the various roads Sam encounters. Sam will know he can approach the racetrack once he receives the appropriate email from Thomas Southerland. The subject line will be highlighted yellow and read: "Come Roar Around the Racetrack of Your Dreams!"

Locate the Racetrack Building Platform South of the Timefall Farmer

Once Sam has received the email, he can make his way to the racetrack building platform near the Timefall Farmer. Rebuilding the track will require the following materials:

  • Chiral Crystals: 650
  • Metals: 2240
  • Ceramics: 1960

How to Get the Building Materials

Sam can either bring the materials with him, or use one of the following methods for acquiring them in the area:

  • Clear and loot the MULE camp north of the Timefall Farm.
  • Withdraw the materials from the Timefall Farmer's shelter.
  • The Timefall Farmer often gives 1000 Lightweight Metals as a reward for completing standard orders. Sam can stockpile any he has earned in the private locker, or look in the shared locker to see if anyone left theirs behind.

When the racetrack has been built, maintain it will be the same as any other road in the game. Timefall will have corrosive effects on the track so keep an eye out for visible wear and tear. Contributing to the construction and upgrade/upkeep of the racetrack will award Sam with likes just like the roads. Now take Sam out and let him feel the wind in his hair!

How to Unlock The Roadster in Death Stranding Director's Cut

Death-Stranding-Thumbs-Up-2

Once Sam has access to the racetrack, unlocking the Roadster is relatively straightforward.

Sam must pass one of the Roadster's timed or ranked races with an S rank. If Sam does not have a vehicle of his own, he will be forced to use on the stored vehicles in the track's garage. This will likely be the case as Sam will not be access to his own Roadster yet. Picking the second time trial will likely be the easiest way to acquire the fabrication plans.

Notes on Receiving an S Rank on the First Roadster Time Trial

Passing the time trials with an S rank may prove to be a challenge for some players. Remember these tips and Sam should be cruising the mountain roads in no time:

Use the speed boost at all times. There may be a moment when taking some of the drift turns that Sam will briefly lose the speed boost, but as soon as he can, he must reengage. It is virtually impossible to get the S rank without doing this.

Death-Stranding-Sharp-Turn-1

High speed turns should go from out to in. Meaning Sam should start on the outer edge of the track and end on the inner edge. This will allow Sam to turn at high speed without losing a beat.

Death-Stranding-Racetrack-Drift

Practice drifting around the tightest U-shaped turns. These turns will likely pose the biggest challenge to players. It is possible to never use the break and simply drift around the turn. If Sam is struggling with this, practice applying the R1 break ever so slightly, then reengaging the speed boost out of the turn.

It may take some practice, but Sam will eventually get it done. Getting an S rank on all the Roadster trials will award Sam with the Long-Range Roadster! Good luck and keep on keeping on!

Death Stranding Director's Cut is available now on PC and PS5.
