Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima reveals the names of all the characters in the game. The characters played by Guillermo del Toro, Mads Mikkelsen and Lea Seydoux have all been named, as well as some brand new characters shown in the new Death Stranding trailer.

The player character is Sam Porter Bridges who is played by Norman Reedus. In Death Stranding trailers, players have seen the character of Sam in tense conversations, trying to hide from supernatural creatures, and traveling across the landscape. The new poster shown by Kojima also shows the character covered in tar, looking far different from the naked, baby-carrying man fans saw when the game was announced.

Mads Mikkelsen, another actor who plays a big part in Death Stranding, will be playing a character called Cliff. Guillermo del Toro will be playing a character called Deadman. Players probably won't see much of Deadman in the game as Guillermo del Toro has confirmed that he has a very small part in Death Stranding and his name isn't on the game's poster, next to other main cast members.

Kojima has also revealed new posters for the characters played by Lindsay Wagner and Lea Seydoux, who fans first saw in the Death Stranding gameplay trailer from last year. Wagner's character will be called Amelie, Kojima confirmed, and Seydoux's character will be called Fragile. Troy Baker's character, who has also been seen before, will be called Higgs.

The new trailer also showed off three new Death Stranding characters who fans hadn't seen before. There's a man in a mask called Die-Hardman, and he's played by Tommie Earl Jenkins. Margaret Qualley will be playing a character called Mama, and Nicolas Winding Refn, another director friend of Kojima's, will be playing a character called Heartman.

These Death Stranding characters all have very serious names, but Kojima says that the game is all about connections. The story and the gameplay are all connected by player collaboration and making people less isolated. Kojima seems to enjoy being cryptic and offering strange clues to fans, allowing them to figure things out, and so it's still unclear how all of these characters fit into the game and the idea of connection. However, the Death Stranding release date has been confirmed so fans may get some answers in the next six months.

Death Stranding will be released on November 8, 2019 on PS4.
