Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima reveals how the development team was able to get those delicious looking cakes into the game. Kojima had teased that Death Stranding would have photorealistic graphics but many fans agreed that the cake looked especially incredible.

In a video posted to his official Twitter account, Kojima confirmed that all of the cakes in Death Stranding are handmade. The cakes, which appear if a player plays Death Stranding on their birthday, were made with scans of real cakes which the game's development team then enjoyed eating. In the video, the Kojima Productions team can be seen slicing into a red cake with "happy birthday" written on it, which looks just like the cake that players can see in the game.

Death Stranding's graphics have been one of the most highly praised parts of the game. Characters such as Sam, played by Norman Reedus and Heartman, played by Nicolas Winding Refn, look just like the actors that player them. The BB carried around by player character Sam also looks just like a real fetus. It's unclear if the development team scanned a baby in water but it's another case of the developers trying and succeeding to make everything in Death Stranding look good.

Fans also had positive things to say about Kojima's Death Stranding cake reveal. Alanah Pearce, who was one of the YouTubers to get a strange Death Stranding case in the mail, joked that getting to scan and eat cake is her "dream job." One fan called the video "the most Kojima thing I've ever seen in my life" and another asked if the developers also drank several cans of Monster Energy before they were scanned in.

Kojima and the team at Kojima Productions may have outdone themselves by scanning a cake into Death Stranding, but fans of the game will be wondering what the team will come up with next. Fans may be asking what other surprising objects could they scan into games and what use would they have? Kojima has said that he would like to make a very scary horror game and there is potential for him to make all kinds of boring items terrifying parts of the game.

Death Stranding is out now for PS4 with a PC release to follow in the summer of 2020.
