On November 8, Death Stranding turned three years old, with the game originally releasing in 2019. Its director, Hideo Kojima, is undoubtedly one of the most influential developers in gaming, almost on par with Mario's creator Shigeru Miyamoto. Kojima has been in the industry for over three and a half decades, with his work being critically acclaimed, particularly the Metal Gear series, which helped kickstart the stealth genre all the way back in the 80s.After leaving Konami, he set up his own independent studio, Kojima Productions, with Death Stranding being the company's first outing. Despite the praise received by the title, it has been known to divide the fan base, with many considering it to be a great open-world game with a bit of a rough opening. With a desolate landscape and unconventional gaming tropes, Death Stranding definitely stood out among what was happening in the AAA sphere at the time, and although some may not have seen the appeal, all that hard work has evidently paid off.RELATED: Hideo Kojima Drops New Teaser For Upcoming GameAs well as just celebrating its third anniversary, Death Stranding has also surpassed 10 million sales. Kojima himself tweeted his delight recently, saying he was happy there were so many "Sam one players" around the world who had all been "loosely connected." There was also an image posted which gave thanks to the millions of "porters" that have been playing the game. The joy was also shared by Gotham Knights and Bayonetta 3 voice actor Tommie Earl Jenkins, who noted that it "changed my life." Other fans have also been taking to Twitter to extend their congratulations to Kojima.

Even before this milestone, many fans of the first game have been anticipating a Death Stranding 2. Kojima has been dropping a number of hints about a new project on the horizon, and even actor Norman Reedus, who played Sam in Death Stranding, has suggested a sequel is in development. However, at the time of writing, there's been no official word on whether a follow-up is currently in the works.

That hasn't stopped people from speculating and closely analyzing tweets. Recently, Hideo Kojima revealed another actor for an unannounced game, and some are wondering whether it's in relation to a potential Death Stranding 2. The director is also working on a horror game currently called Project Overdose and has also been involved in his own podcast, Brain Structure, with the first episode releasing not long ago. In short, the Japanese auteur is keeping himself busy, and no doubt more people will be leaving messages of congratulations over this latest milestone achievement.

Death Stranding is available on PC, PS4, and PS5.
