A ton of information was showcased during Nintendo's Direct presentation today, with everything from Overwatch on Switch to SNK DLC characters in Smash Ultimate being revealed. Perhaps one of the most surprising reveals, however, was related to the return of a cult-classic franchise from Rising Star Games, Deadly Premonition. Not only was news revealed about the original, but Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise was also revealed.
For those unaware of the franchise from Rising Star Games, the original was a survival horror game known for its campiness that originally released in February 2010 for Xbox 360 and PS3. It was set in the fictional town of Greenvale, Washington and followed the story of FBI Special Agent Frank York Morgan while investing a young woman's murder. Now, fans of the cult classic can enjoy it on the go. The original Deadly Premonition has been redubbed Deadly Premonition: Origins and can be purchased right now on the Switch eShop.
On top of that, it will be receiving a physical Collection's Edition in November, with more details on that forthcoming. This is all likely to build hype for its sequel, Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise. Francis York returns for this game but will not be the only playable character. Players will also assume the role of FBI agent Aaliyah Davis who is investing a serial killer in Boston.
The serial killer she is pursuing connects to a 14-year-old case involving the aforementioned protagonist from the last game, so players will be able to control both characters at various intervals. As each investigation progresses, their stories will cross over more and more in Deadly Premonition 2, and it'll be interesting to see how this survival horror game manifests on the go.
While many will hate the wait for the upcoming sequel, there is a silver lining. Because of its release window, marketing and reveals for Deadly Premonition 2 are likely to begin sooner rather than later, giving players a better idea of what to expect. After all, this is a sequel releasing for a cult classic that originally launched 10 years prior, so questions are to be expected. On top of that, players can also bide the time revisiting the original.
Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise releases on the Nintendo Switch in 2020.
