Dead Space is widely regarded as one of the best survival horror games since its release. Though the franchise has been long dormant, it is now one of the top trending Twitter topics thanks to a pick 3 challenge.

Twitter user @PuppetCombo offered their take on the pick 3 trend that has Twitter in an uproar, making fans choose between 35 popular horror franchises and getting rid of the remaining options. Thanks to streaming platforms and the popularity of VR there is no shortage of ways to experience survival-horror games nowadays so the challenge is pretty difficult for fans of the genre.

Among some of the options Dead Space has been found on a number of user's lists. This isn't a surprise as the series, despite its lower-than-expected sales, saw multiple entries including games, books, and movies. The game has seen the top trending list before with similar topics trending asking for its return or re-release akin to EA's other popular franchise, Skate 4.

Dead Space has had a unique few weeks. Recently Dead Space story writer Antony Johnson teased on Twitter that his next big project would be shown at Sony's PS5 reveal event and rumors quickly spread that Sony may have some involvement in the project. Antony has since clarified his project had not debuted at the event and that he had no knowledge of any new Dead Space project from EA. This news was compounded by other recent rumors hinting at Sony's involvement in reviving the Silent Hill franchise, though no news has come from that rumor as well.

Dead Space pushed many boundaries with its release in October of 2008. The game was celebrated for its clever use of HUD to show a players health and inventory as well as allowing players to move while shooting, something the Resident Evil franchise did not do with its follow up in 2009, Resident Evil 5. Though it seems like the franchise is still on ice, EA Play Live may be the next opportunity for a successful resurgence when it goes live later today.

Dead Space is available on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360
