With its release just around the corner, Dead Space has received an official launch trailer, giving fans of the survival horror genre a final look at what they can expect from one of the most hotly anticipated games of early 2023. The original Dead Space launched in October 2008, about midway through the 7th generation of home consoles, and is widely regarded as one of the scariest and most memorable survival horror games of that alll time.

Dead Space looks to be a faithul remake, updated for modern audiences. Set in a fictional future where humanity has successfully become an interstellar species, but not without troubles. The game puts players in the role of Isaac Clarke, an engineer who is part of a team responding to a distress call from a mining vessel called the USG Ishimura, which is thought to be a fairly routine maintenance callout. It doesn't take long for things to go awry - the engineering team becomes stranded aboard the ill-fated USG Ishimura, and quickly realize something has gone very wrong for the ship and its crew.

The launch trailer for the Dead Space remake showcases what is considered to be one of the best survival horror games of all time brought up to modern graphical standards, featuring gameplay and cinematics which convey the terrifying urgency of the situation protagonist Isaac Clarke finds himself in. Dead Space is one of the biggest horror games launching in 2023, right alongside a remake of one of the games that inspired its gameplay - Resident Evil 4.

It will be interesting to see how Dead Space is received. It looks like the developer, Motive Studio, has handled this remake with every ounce of respect it could muster. With the original Dead Space turning 15 years old this year, comparing the visuals between the original and the remake highlight just how far graphics technology has come.

Those picking up Dead Space on Steam will receive a free copy of Dead Space 2, which is a nice incentive and will allow players to continue the story once they finish the game. Nevertheless, fans of Dead Space will doubtless be pleased that the franchise is getting some attention after a 10-year hiatus following the release of Dead Space 3 and the subsequent shuttering of Visceral Games. Release is right around the corner, but such an impressive trailer can make 2 weeks feel much longer for those who are excited for one of 2023's first heavy hitters.

Dead Space launches January 27 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
