In the seventh chapter of Dead Space, Isaac managed to send out an SOS beacon on an asteroid. But if he, Kendra, and Hammond want to talk to anyone who finds the beacon they will need to repair the communications array.

As luck would have it, a military ship called the USM Valor detected the beacon and is rapidly approaching. As Dead Space players attempt to fix the communications array and contact the USM Valor, here is what they can expect in the eighth chapter "Search and Rescue" as there has been a few changes from the 2008 version of this chapter.

Go to the Bridge

Use the tram station to go back to the bridge. While the tram is moving, it suddenly stops and something big tries to force the doors open. Eventually the tram doors close again and the tram keeps moving. When Dead Space players reach the atrium, the quarantine systems will kick in as Necromorphs enter the area. Several Exploders will jump in as well, so be ready to deal with them.

Once quarantine is over, use the elevator to go to the third floor. While following the locator, watch out for two Guardians that are protecting the door to the Comms Access Hall. As players enter the next area, they will discover that the communications array is in terrible shape. Fortunately there are enough dishes intact that it is possible to fix it enough to have short range communications be possible again.

How to Fix the Communications Array

The puzzle to fix the communications array has seen some significant changes since the 2008 version of Dead Space. While players had to simply grab non-broken dishes and place them in a ring around the antenna, this puzzle has become significantly more complex in the remake. Not only do players need to replace dishes, but also they need to pay attention to the white lines that are on the non-broken dishes.

Before doing anything else, make sure to remove all the broken dishes and place them in a corner where they won't be in the way. Then gather all the non-broken dishes together. The goal of this puzzle is to use the dishes to direct electricity from the generator below the Communication Control screen all the way up to the small ring at the top of the room where the antenna is.

The solution for the puzzle is depicted in the image above. With the communications array now fixed, follow the locator to go back to the terminal and activate it. Isaac and Kendra are able to receive a message from the USM Valor as they announce that they picked up an escape pod from the Ishimura. Realizing that a Necromorph is inside the escape pod that the USM Valor picked up, Isaac and Kendra try to deploy the long-range antenna so that they can warn the Valor not to open the escape pod.

Activate the Long-Range Antenna

The only way to use the long-range antenna is to open the blast doors. Unfortunately the controls for the blast doors are not in the same room as the terminal for the communication array. On the way to the controls for the blast doors, look out for a type of Necromorph called a Divider. These tall monsters break up into smaller ones when they are killed, so players should be ready to deal with that. There is also a single Slasher inside the elevator, though it is unclear how it managed to get in there.

Upon reaching the controls for the blast doors, attempt to open them. Turns out that the Leviathan that got spaced in the sixth chapter managed to somehow attach itself to the communications array. In order to use the long ranged-antenna, players will need to get the Leviathan off of it.

How to Beat the Leviathan Remnant

While this boss was originally a different Necromorph called the Slug in the 2008 version, players now face off against the Leviathan for a second round. This boss fight is different from the one in the sixth chapter. Just like in the fourth chapter, players will need to use ADS cannons outside.

Connect to one of the cannons and use it to shoot one of the large glowing spots on the Leviathan Remnant. Once the spot is destroyed, the Leviathan Remnant will destroy that cannon. There are three cannons total in this area, so don't worry when they get destroyed as it only happens when a weak spot is destroyed.

While using the cannons, watch out for the biological landmines that the Leviathan Remnant spawns. When these mines are spawned, the Leviathan Remnant will combo it by using one of its tentacles to sweep into a bunch of mines and cause a series of explosions. To avoid taking damage, move out of the way of the tentacle and be mindful of where the mines are. Upon using the third cannon, players will need to use their own weapons to deal the killing blow on the Leviathan Remnant and detach it from the blast doors.

Go back inside and use the terminal to activate the long-range antenna. Unfortunately it is far too late, and the USM Valor crashes into the Ishimura. While it may seem like all hope is lost, Hammond calls with news that he found a shuttle that they can use to escape. It doesn't have a Singularity Core, but the USM Valor may have one that can be used. The eighth chapter ends as players arrive at the USM Valor.

Dead Space is available now on PlayStation 5, Steam, and Xbox Series X/S.
