The remake of Dead Space will give players the option to skip gory scenes in the game. Dead Space is a science fiction horror franchise that was originally developed by Visceral Games and published by Electronic Arts. The series was co-created by Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey, the former of which would go on to direct a new survival horror action game titled The Callisto Protocol.

Dead Space follows protagonist and engineer, Isaac Clarke, who is on a search and rescue mission to locate his girlfriend Nicole while finding a way to escape the Ishimura space-ship that is full of mutated undead creatures known as Necromorphs. To defeat the Necromorphs, Isaac must repurpose his mining tools and signature RIG spacesuit to fight his way through the infested ship in hopes of locating his girlfriend.

The original game launched with positive reception with plenty of positive feedback on the unique twist added to the zombie horror-survival game format. The sci-fi setting, unique weapon choices, gory death scenes, and dismemberment gameplay made Dead Space one of the most iconic series of its time. In the remake, however, players will now have the option to skip over gory scenes in the game. In a post uploaded to the official Dead Space Reddit, jamesswazzz shared an image showing the content warning prompt that will display on-screen before scenes that depict graphic moments with a description of the upcoming event.

Players can also toggle off the warning if they want to have a more immersive experience or simply have an experience closer to the original game. Other fans of the series shared their opinion on the new feature in the replies. Several users saw it as a general quality of life update while others were questioning why some players would decide to play a survival-horror game while being sensitive to violent imagery especially when Dead Space has some very iconic gory moments.

While it is understanding that some fans are concerned about the prompt breaking immersion and spoiling the scary scenes that exist throughout the game, it is important to note that these scenes are turned off by default and have to be turned on in the settings. This feature will more than likely allow those who have particular phobias or simply would rather play Dead Space for the gameplay and plot experiences as opposed to the survival-horror aspect of the game. Regardless of player preference, it is great to see games allow players to customize their experience to one that suits them best.

Dead Space is out now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
