The recently released Dead Space remake has taken the top spot on the UK's sales charts for physical copies ahead of several noteworthy competitors. The Dead Space remake has also been very successful among critics and gamers, earning a high position on Steam's sales charts along with very favorable reviews across the board.

Dead Space has long been one of the most beloved franchises when it comes to horror games, ever since Isaac Clarke worked a nightmarish shift onboard the necromorph-infested Ishimura in 2008's Dead Space. The game was revolutionary at the time, with an incredibly immersive presentation that combined atmospheric level design, spine-chilling sound effects, and the body horror of John Carpenter's The Thing into a sci-fi horror phenomenon. When EA Motive's remake was announced over a decade later, many were skeptical that a remake could ever top the original. Judging by sales figures and reviews, it looks like the studio has managed to do exactly that.

The Dead Space remake has taken the number one spot on the UK's physical sales charts, with 80% of those sales being Dead Space's PlayStation 5 version. The disparity between PlayStation and Xbox sales could be due to purchasing habits, as Xbox players tend to use digital downloads more often. On the UK physical sales chart, Dead Space is followed by FIFA 23, God of War Ragnarok, Forspoken, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Despite Dead Space's success, it's interesting to note that the remake hasn't managed to beat The Callisto Protocol's first week of physical sales, a game that owed some of its success to its similarity with Dead Space. However, It is worth noting that The Callisto Protocol was also available on more platforms, sold at a lower price point, and released during the holidays, traditionally the strongest time of the year for physical copies. The Callisto Protocol did fairly worse with its reception, though this has begun to turn around a bit thanks to updates that have brought numerous improvements like bug fixes and New Game Plus.

Once digital sales charts come out later in the week, it can be expected to find the Dead Space remake holding a strong position at or near the top of those as well. Currently, on Steam, the only game beating Dead Space is the pre-orders for the upcoming open-world Harry Potter RPG Hogwarts Legacy.

Dead Space is available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
