Electronic Arts capped off its EA Play Live 2021 event with the reveal of the long-rumored Dead Space remake, which is being developed by Star Wars: Squadrons studio EA Motive. The Dead Space remake will bring the classic sci-fi survival-horror game to modern audiences, serving as both a remake and a reboot of the franchise. So while fans should be able to expect an experience that's faithful to the original Dead Space, there's definitely going to be some changes here and there.

One big change that Dead Space fans can look forward to in the remake is the complete lack of loading screens. Thanks to the SSDs in the PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles, the Dead Space remake will have zero loading screens, which should allow for increased immersion. This is one of the advantages of the Dead Space remake being a next-gen only game, as it will be able to take full advantage of the new consoles.

There will be other changes in the Dead Space remake as well. While specifics aren't available at this time, it's been suggested that the zero-gravity sections from Dead Space 2 will make an appearance in the remake. The Dead Space remake will also have some story tweaks so that plot points introduced later in the series appear a bit earlier in the narrative.

The Dead Space remake will be taking the zero-gravity from Dead Space 2, but it's also learning from its sequels in other ways. As some may recall, Dead Space 3 controversially had microtransactions, a decision that was met with widespread criticism at the time of its original release. It's already been confirmed that the Dead Space remake will not have microtransactions, so fans don't have to worry about them worming their way into the game.

Everything that's been revealed about the game since the Dead Space remake teaser trailer should sound good to fans, and hopefully they don't have to wait too long to see more of the game. As it stands, no Dead Space remake gameplay has been revealed so far, and the game's release date is nowhere in sight. It being a next-gen only game does suggest that fans will have to wait at least a couple of years before they'll get the chance to play it.

While some fans may be frustrated by the long wait they have ahead of them, other Dead Space enthusiasts are likely happy that a new Dead Space game is coming at all. Here's hoping it lives up to the high bar set by the original game.

Dead Space is in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
