EA recently announced that the popular horror series Dead Space will be making a comeback on next-gen consoles and PC. This was great news for fans, as many assumed the series was over after it went dormant after the release of its third game. There is still very little known about the Dead Space remake, but it has been revealed that the game will be a full remake of the game by studio EA Motive.

The inspiration for the Dead Space remake is reportedly Resident Evil 2 Remake, which is great news for fans of the series. This inspiration also puts Dead Space remake in a fantastic position to make its own identity within the series, and to do something different from the original, while maintaining its thematic elements and spirit. There are a lot of changes that could be made in Dead Space remake. However, the possibilities are undeniably exciting, and there are some simply great ways that Dead Space remake could take this opportunity to improve upon the original.

Dead Space Remake Has The Opportunity To Make Isaac Better

horror game franchises resurrected

Isaac Clarke is the glue that holds the Dead Space series together, and he quickly became the face of the series after the original game's release. Isaac's helmet and minimal HUD integrated into his suit have become an iconic part of horror games. His story as a space engineer thrown into a terrible situation has always been endearing to players.

However, in the first Dead Space, Isaac never spoke and players hardly ever saw his face over the course of the game. The Dead Space remake would be very wise to change this and to start showing Isaac's personality right from the start of the game, so that players can become familiar with him faster. This will be even more imperative if the Dead Space remake is used as the start of a new series.

Giving Isaac more personality throughout the game also would not be overly difficult for the developers, as his personality plays a much larger role in both Dead Space 2 and Dead Space 3. There are many elements from the sequels that Dead Space remake should incorporate, and drawing from them to form Isaac's personality in the first game is another great option. This would also help connect the Dead Space remake with the original trilogy of games as it would help keep Isaac consistent across all four of them and ensure that the new game feels like a proper Dead Space title for fans.

Dead Space Remake Has Should Expand Its Lore

Dead Space has a lot of lore for its Necromorphs, but there are many aspects of the game's universe that fans are still searching for information about. The Dead Space remake is in a great position to expand that lore, both in regards to the Necromorphs, and the world outside of the ship that Isaac is so perilously trapped on. Later entries in the game took Isaac to more parts of the Dead Space universe, and the Dead Space remake could do a lot to start fleshing that world out more so that there is more for players to sink their teeth into.

Putting more lore into the Dead Space remake is also a great opportunity to consolidate some of the information and make it easier for new players to start learning all of it. Dead Space's remake will likely attract many new fans to the series, and making the game a solid place for new players to start wrapping their head around story elements like markers, Necromorphs, and Isaac's fractured psyche would go a long way in helping to get them fully on board with the series.

It also would be great for returning fans of the series, as lore in the previous games was always a bit hard to piece together, and having it all packed into one game would be a great way for fans to freshen up on the lore. Whether the Dead Space remake adds new lore to the series, or just consolidates what is already there, having more in the game would make it very exciting for Dead Space fans.

The Dead Space Remake Could Subvert Expectations

dead space remake trailer

One of the greatest aspects of recent remakes like Resident Evil 2 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Remake is the elements of the games that they change. Both remakes manage to maintain the experience of the original games, while bringing them into modern times and giving fans something fully new to play. This is what the Dead Space remake should strive for.

Horror games are always the most terrifying the first time through because players don't know what to expect, so the Dead Space remake being overly faithful to the events in the original game could lead to it landing a bit flat for fans who know what to expect. The developers have already announced that the game will include content cut from Dead Space, but the team should go even further.

Being willing to change the game more than a simple remaster will allow the Dead Space remake to overcome some of the hurdles that it faces. Some fans have expressed concerns over Dead Space remake's ending not hitting the same as the original, and the game is willing to subvert the expectations of fans will help circumvent these issues. It would be a great moment for fans of the original game for the Dead Space remake to take a step in a drastic new direction halfway through, or to even throw more curveballs at the player throughout its entire runtime so that the game feels fresh and new.

Hopefully, players will get some more news on the Dead Space remake soon. Either way, there is a lot to be excited about in regards to the game, and it will be very interesting to see what shape it takes when it eventually releases. The game has a lot of potential to revitalize the Dead Space series by bringing new attention to it or crossovers with other big titles like Dead By Daylight. Hopefully, the Dead Space remake will be just as exciting for fans in the end as it seems it could be.

Dead Space Remake is in development for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
