A few days before the release of the Dead Space remake, developer Motive revealed how this upcoming space horror game will take full advantage of the PS5's DualSense controller features. While the Dead Space remake will also release on Xbox Series X/S and PC, the developer hints at some unique perks coming with the PlayStation 5 version of the game.

Initially released in 2008, Dead Space quickly became a reference when it comes to space horror games. The story follows Isaac Clarke, an engineer investigating a distress signal coming from a spaceship. Upon his arrival on board, there is no sign of the crew, but Clarke isn’t alone; terrifying alien monsters are lurking in the shadows. The Dead Space remake keeps the same story as the original game but brings a variety of updates, including a graphical overhaul and helpful quality-of-life changes making Dead Space accessible to more players.

In a recent blog post published on the official PlayStation website, developer Motive Studio shared examples of how the Dead Space remake takes full advantage of the PS5's DualSense controller features. The game mainly benefits from the controller’s haptic feedback and built-in speakers, increasing the immersion for players as they progress through the USG Ishimura to face the terrifying alien monsters from the Dead Space remake.

The DualSense controller has haptic feedback, letting players use various degrees of force when pressing the triggers. In the Dead Space remake, this feature allows players to discharge a shot of the plasma cutter and feel each round fired from the pulse rifle. The haptic feedback also makes players feel the steps they take with Isaac’s magnetic boots in zero-gravity areas, as well as provides realistic vibrations when the protagonist uses his Kinesis and Stasis modules. On top of these vibrations, the DualSense grants PlayStation 5 players additional gameplay feedback with audio cues through the controller's built-in speakers.

These exclusive PlayStation 5 features will further increase players’ immersion in the space horror game. Motive already warned that the Dead Space remake is terrifying, almost too scary to play with headphones at night. Those brave enough to play the game can try to unlock all the new trophies/achievements and discover the new face of Isaac Clarke, who received a makeover with the remake. It also seems that the Dead Space remake features an alternative ending, different from the canon one from the original game, which may provide some extra enjoyment for those wanting to unlock everything the Dead Space remake has to offer.

Dead Space launches on January 27 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
