After the success of the first Dead Space game, EA set to work expanding the franchise with sequels, spin-offs, and multimedia projects. Unfortunately, Dead Space 3 failed to meet sales expectations, and so EA put its sci-fi horror series on ice. There hasn't been any word on the Dead Space franchise in the years since, but now EA has finally pulled the curtain back on a new Dead Space game at its EA Play Live 2021 event.

The EA Play Live 2021 event included a new look at Battlefield 2042, the reveal for Knockout City Season 2, and fresh look at various other EA games that are in development. However, the big reveal at the show was the confirmation that a new Dead Space game is indeed development, as was previously leaked by industry insiders.

The trailer showed a derelict spaceship, with a trail of blooding on the floor leading to an elevator. Inside the elevator appears to be one of Dead Space's necromorph monsters munching down on something. The trailer then cuts to Dead Space hero Isaac Clarke, showing his iconic health meter. Viewers are then shown the Dead Space logo, but with no other context for what this new game actually is.

This new Dead Space game is a remake of the original. And while that wasn't officially confirmed by the trailer, the phrase "CUT OFF THEIR LIMBS" being written in blood is a big clue. It's something that players see in the original Dead Space game, serving as an explanation as to how to defeat the Necromorphs, and has stood out as one of that game's most memorable moments.

Fans will now be able to relive that iconic moment on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. It's been confirmed that the Dead Space remake is a next-gen only game, and that it will be powered by the Frostbite Engine. Since the original Dead Space was known for its impressive visuals, it seems that the Dead Space remake is aiming to take things to the next level.

The new Dead Space game is in development by EA Motive. However, some Dead Space fans may be unfamiliar with EA Motive's work. After all, the original Dead Space games were developed by Visceral Games, a studio that EA shut down years ago. EA Motive is the developer behind Star Wars: Squadrons, which earned relatively positive reviews at the time of its release, and so it seems fans can rest easy knowing that the Dead Space franchise is in good hands.

Dead Space is in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
